hello from a new owner
Hello all
I've just bought myself a 1981, 4.5 litre - manual, and I love it! I scoured for a cheap project and ended up with what appears to be a very original car (at a bargain price). I even found in the spare wheel an unopened plastic bag from Porsche (which I then opened...) containing plastic gloves, bags for a wheel and a nice Porsche tyre guage! And it has the rather hilarious 'Pasha' trim.
Just need to decide on how original I keep it..
Cheers
Jim

Welcome Jim. Looks like an awsome car. For some reason I love white sharks... Yours looks pretty darn good as a starting place. Look around, you will find a list of stuff that will probably need to be done. As far as oritionality goes, these cars are not increasing in value too much these days so make it yours and enjoy it. If you care for it, it will last you many many miles and years...

Hi Ponty and welcome
Is this the car that was up on carsales for a day or so? A local 928S-owning mate mentioned it to me and asked if I bought it.
Good score - the later 4.5's are sweet, with higher compression than 78/79 cars, and Pascha is many peoples' favourite early interior.

Hi Ponty, well done. If it is the carsales.com.au car, I was toying with buying and when I went back on to the site to contact the vendor it was no longer listed. So well done, you've got yourself a nice car and have saved me from myself. If it is that same car I seem to recall the vendor commented on some transmission woes - how is the gearbox?

Thanks for the welcome!
Yes, it was on carsales (I think two or three times, not sure what the early prices were) - when it was posted at $5,000 I drove down that day (6 hours from where I am) with the cash burning a hole in the proverbial. It was a deceased estate, owned by a Co Director. The other Director wanted it gone, but mentioned that second gear was no good. So I drove off into the Sydney Friday night peakhour traffic, with the instructions to 'not use second gear'. I usually drive a Ford ute with a gear pattern that is the reverse of this (or an auto Lexus..) so it was inevitable that I slotted second in error. Lo and behold, the synchro might be a bit weak but second is no drama! I just tell myself it's like a Ferrari and you have to warm the box first..
I drove it the six hours home and it went just fine. A few loose rattles and sqeaks, great headlights and a softer ride than an Audi S3 I had a while back. I love it!
thanks all
