Can't say I'm a fan of the silicone organ pipe boots. Mine continue to slide off. Fit great once. If I remove for whatever reason and re-install- no bueno. They'll be coming off this weekend and I'm going back to OEM. Shame...I like the way they looked.

Default intake covers

anyone have a set of intake covers they want to loan, rent, sell, or trade?
The ones you put on when the intake runners are off.

If you have a set of intake gaskets you can make your own. Just use something thin and rigid, lay the intake gasket set on it and use it as a template to draw the pattern. Cut out all but the holes where the intake openings would go and you've got your cover plates.

I wouldn't use those bolts unless they have the shoulder at the proper depth. As for the covers for the intake ports, they're really not necessary. You can wad up some paper towels and accomplish 99% of what the covers do. Besides, old intake gasket material is what is most likely to fall into one of the ports while you're scraping them off. You can't have the covers in place to do this anyway. If in doubt about something falling in, just use a shop vac.

I use two layers/***** of paper towels. Shop vac when removing each layer.

Pic shows one layer removed, in preparation for (gasket matching).

I made my service covers by buying two moving blankets at Harbor freight, $5 each, and a set of grommets to put through one side of each. I'm using wire ties to hold in place. Serve the purpose... more $$ to spend on parts..

Almost 5 yrs ago I replaced the fuel lines; vacuum lines; sent the injectors off to be refreshed; & had the intakes powder coated on my '85. For me, it was lots and lots of photos throughout the process to ensure I got everything back together where it belonged.

Funny, three different family members said the exact same thing to me when they saw it all apart, "Can you get that back together?" Once it was back together, my wife asked me if maybe I'd want to push it out of the garage prior to turning the key, but I didn't believe that was necessary. And it fired right up on the 1st turn of the key!

If I can do it, I know its not that difficult a process. Especially with all the experts available here for advice & guidance.

MGW-Fla! How did those mods work out for you? X pipe and AA chips. I imagine that you also did newer FPR? Anything else?

Also got my refresh done, and I'm going to get that all sorted out before doing mods!

Didn't replace the FPR, & haven't had any problems. I'm glad I chipped it. Both of my '85s showed a difference in the 'seat of the pants' method after being chipped. And the X-pipe is one of my favorite 928 mods, just love hearing that V8 rumble. Course, the wife has grown weary of it, doesn't like riding in it if its too long of a drive, something about not being able to hear herself talk! Hmmmmmm another 'Beni' to having the Xpipe perhaps!!

Default parts question-cam cover gasket kit

I know the red small rubber "o's" go on the bolts.
where do the 2 gaskets go, and the 6 round discs?

The discs are the updated cam seals. Your car may or may not already have them. The original seals are a black plastic cap and an o-ring that don't seal very well. The two gaskets are for the cooling passages. I can't remember if they go up at the front or the back.
