Yeah, that's a new one on me. Wow.

Interesting way to find out. Nice piece of detective work there.

That's just a casting defect. Won't affect the distributor.

Anyway, the new parts from 928Intl should come with the roll pin that's likely missing on your engine.

Default Strange but True - Repair worked

I seriously doubt anyone will be as lucky as me to ever see this again but I wanted get the info out for fellow 928 Owners and to help calm myself down.

As review, I had the right distributor cap getting badly scored on a single pole from the rotating rotor after performing a full tune-up. After chewing up 2 Caps and mysterious “kinda" low power at low RPM it was determined that the Cam shaft back cover plate was slightly bent from some previous PO adventure(engine from a wreck, dropped, or who knows what).

So the back and front cover plates were replaced and sure enough no more scoring and full power is back. Parts were 928 105 148 06 and
928 105 146 06.

I’m a little bummed that I may continue to discover additional buried treasures but I’m going to drive this baby until the engine explodes and then put in a replacement. Thanks to Ray Munsch and Roger for assisting in determine WTF was going on.

Happy Thanksgiving

Nice job tracking down the problem. That's not something you see very often...if ever.

Thanks but all is good now. Power is where it should be, saving for X-Pipe now.

Happy Thanksgiving
