Thanks for the words of encouragement.
I've had the car washed and the engine bay power washed. Need to have the interior detailed today.
Next step is to have it looked at by the insurance adjuster.
Will let you know how that goes.

Wow, ugly scene that could have easily ended much worse. This must be the #1 save of the year, at least for this forum.
I had a similar situation, but the engine was cold on a 50 degree night and I smelled the fuel before it reached any ignition source.
In my case the fuel rail was cracked from taking the gauge on / off. The 16V rails are much less robust than the 32V versions, which I upgraded to shortly there after.

If the fire was local around the fuel rail on the passenger side and extinguished fast enough, you may more than likely will need to replace the LH & EZK wiring harness for the engine in addition to the rail, hoses and sensors.

Insurance appraisal occured this weekend.
Agent indicates all will be totally covered, and as it is fire-related, my policy waives the deductible.
