I absolutely hate the common silicone based
cleaners/ polishes such as "Cockpit Shine" and similar.
The damned stuff seems to get everywhere like hands,
steering wheel, door handles and clothes and is
nigh impossible to wash off.
Does anyone have any recommendations for cleaning
the dash that doesn't leave a slik slippy finish.

 

Meguiar's 40 is what I use. Not too shiny, makes the dash look factory just clean. Got the tip from a professional detailer

 

Of course it depends if you have leather or not...

 

Depends if you want to CLEAN it or if you want to LOTION it. If you want to clean it, use lightly soapy water, or if not needed, just water, and if water is not needed, it is better to use a dry rag. But your rag needs to be very well wrung out if you use water. Leather doesn't like water, which is in almost all "cleaning products". Vinyl is OK with a good washing.

WHen it's clean, you should use something like Leatherique products to feed the leather, but use nothing on a plastic dash. Oil + plastic + sun = cracks

 

Hmm. Wonder if that is why our dashes cracked so bad because of the oils that POs put on (Amor All or something) to make the dash look "good"

 

If leather or vinyl, use Zaino Z10- Leather In A Bottle.
If vinyl, use Aerospace 303.

 

I use Vinylex or Griots Vinyl cleaner. So far, nos dash cracks.

 

My dash is plastic not leather so it was a plastic cleaner I wanted.
Here in Scotland we are not overly bothered by year round sunshine
so neither leather nor plastic interiors deteriorate much. I just wanted
a product to smarted the dash up a bit without the usual slippery feeling.

Mine is an '89 and the Linen seats and Blue dash are near perfect.
Thanks for the suggestions so far. The only product I recognise
as available locally would be the Megiuars one.

I've been very happy with Leatherique's Prestine cleaner for leather, vinyl and plastic. It's only promoted as a leather cleaner, but it does a great job on these other materials. Not shiny or slick, just clean.

I just used some Griot's "Interior Cleaner" last week. Safe for use on vinyl, leather, and apparently carpet. I'm not easily impressed, but I was very pleased with how well that stuff worked. It did an incredible job on the leather seats.

 

On the topic of cleaning interioirs, if you are dealing with
really old or very grubby plastic or PVC components,
especially those with a fake leather texture try using a
mechanics hand cleaner.
I use "Comma Manista" brand in the UK. This is a yellow lemon
scented cream with plastic granules to give it a slightly
abrasive action on skin. Dismantle as much as possible
and then work this stuff well into the surface using a nail
brush and old tooth brushes then rinse off.
It might seem a bit drastic but works a treat and I haven't
yet damaged any surfaces using this method.

 

I went to Car Care Specialties and picked up Sonax product. 928 OC discount and some straightforward reviews/advice on the site.

 

I've also found that cleaner to be good.

Aerospace 303 is brilliant, it's great for vinyl and I also found it to be the absolute best for getting a like new look on S front and rear spoilers, after trying all the others.

 

303 is a great tire dressing, too. Not too dull....not too shiney.
