Ash,

I assume from the questions you are a relative newbie so welcome to 928 ownership- two down probably another 30 or so items to go before the "to do" list is complete assuming you have not had this example too long!

Whereas there is a longish list of items that will inevitably go or are about to for your vintage, hopefully you will not have to address too many of them but looking at those two you have shown I suspect it is a safe bet there will be quite a few more lurking in the "about to go" category, some already mentioned above.

If you have a complete history just check the list of what has been done against "the regulars" and pre-emptively do the rest in one hit if you can afford. The hammer tester tells you a bit but by no means all you need to know.

We really ought to have an official Rennlist comprehensive check list of such items [maybe it exists already?]. Those of us who have been around 928's long enough can recite it in our sleep I suspect. I think there are plenty of threads covering this.

Just holler if you need help identifying them.

Regards

Thx Fred, yup I picked the car up early this year and am working through the to do list. I already had it looked at by a Porsche specialist and have a laundry list from him tacked together with what I have found on the board. My go to mechanic is a friend / 911 guy and only 1 mile from my home and freely admits to not working on many 928's, but the rates he charges plus the location and friendly rapport we have makes up for that.

But we are both learning as we go, and yes you are right as I work on the next thing, we seem to uncover more for the list, but I bought it knowing what I was getting into so that's fine by me as thats half the fun.

Ash,

Good attitude- sound's like this GT has gone to a deserving home. I advise potential owners to allow $2k to $3k for the likely initial shopping list and onwards and upwards for those not so fortunate with their PO.

Whereas there is no substitute for experience, with a resource like Rennlist a good mechainic can quickly get to grips with these cars. I am only limited by having no lift and no a/c garage space. No fun working on these cars in 40C heat!

With knowledge you can minimise the bills but ultimately there is no escape unless you like owning a garden ornament.

Regards
