I have a black/black S4.
What other popular colors were there with a black interior?
I can guess Red but what else?

I have it my mind that guards red on black was a very common color scheme for those 944s and 928s from the 80s. I have the feeling though that more of the red cars have disappeared (accidents, driven into the ground, etc.) than the others.
When I was looking for a 928, I wanted a single stage paint. So, I ended up with guards red on black. I never actually wanted red. But in the end I'm happy. One of the nice things about the black interior is that it at least is easier to keep looking new.
After looking a lot, at the other combination I like is the early 928s with the Pascha interior. That looks so cool! I just didn't want a car with K-Jetronic... But I would have to say that Pascha seems to be at least the iconic interior from the early cars. Don't know about being popular though...

Jeff,
I've bought six '87's through '94's over the past 11 years, all with black exterior. The '87 had an all maroon interior, one '88 had silver grey/black, two were black, (those cars are all gone) the '89 has champagne/black, and the '94 black (since changed to silver grey seats).

I had a guy look at my white/black car, just because of the color combination! It kind of surprised me, since when I originally bought it, my least favorite thing about it was the white exterior. But I have to say that I grew to appreciate it. When I get it cleaned up again, I am going to try to capture something I notice at night - this flavor of Gran Prix Weiss looks like it glows!
And agree about ease of maintenance - as bad as I let my black interior get, it has been relatively easy to find and match parts for it.

I think black interior is universal. it goes with any exterior color just like silver colored wheels would go with any car.
