Brembo Brakes…should I?
I came across some 928 Brembo Brakes in a salvage yard. The question is should I buy them and put them on my 82 928. Is it worth it?
I figured I will need the rotors from the salvaged car too. And from reading other post I will also need some “spacers”. I have not seen what those spacers look like, so not exactly certain on how it will fit or work on my car.
Why do I want them? I only want them for looks. My car unfortunately is a daily driver. I don’t have a heavy foot. So my car does not get abused. (Too many tickets in the past)

You probably have "S" Brakes which work just fine.......for a street car..even the early 928 brakes are fine, unless you drive really hard on old fluid
Even with the calipers-rotors and lines you still will need the adapters which are $200....IF you have the early brakes....since the adapters do not work with S brakes

I believe you will also need the early spindles unless you use the suspension bits from the car in the salvage yard as well. The rear calipers will only need a couple of washers to fit.

You would need pre-S spindels and S4 rotors and the adaptors and even then the offsets or something might be wrong. If they are cheap enough you might buy them just to have them, but I would not tear the car apart to do this if you currently have S brakes. Also, some of the early Brembo calipers don't have a dust boot, so the piston is exposed any you can get pitting or curd buildup that leads to sticking and overheating. My guess on this is that they were really more of a track caliper, not really a street car caliper. I am going to have to back through my S4 calipers yet again this weekend, tearing them all apart and replacing the pistons this time. The S calipers are nice street calipers (with dust boots) and have never given me any trouble.

What irony! Just an hour ago I took delivery of a set of Big Reds (front and rear). When I bought my car a couple of guys told me " big brakes first". I never even thought about it, stock were great, no problems. Then I went to the track and ... now I'll put on the Big Reds this winter. There were two times when I really wished I could stop, both my rookie fault, but scare the $#@& out of me anyway.

To convert your car you'd need for the front: adaptors, brembo calipers and hoses, early pre S spindles, S4 shields adapted to 2 bolt holes for the early spindles, and then you'll need 993TT rotors because S4 have the wrong offset.
For the rear: brembo calipers and hoses, S4 rotors, S4 shields, 5mm spacers to get the calipers to centre on the rotor.
PS: you'll also need 17" wheels to clear the brembo caliper and new rotor setup.
Standard S brakes are OK for normal daily driving if in good condition and with new fluid, but in my opinion are a bit average for a high performance car. It depends a lot on your individual driving style. I changed my S to this setup after running out of brakes on a few occasions, and think the bigger brakes are a huge improvement .... others are quite happy with the standard setup. This is a fairly expensive conversion if you're only doing it for looks.

S4 brakes look and feel fantastic on my OB. It's not all about ROI. We don't own 928's for financial gain. I am a big supporter of spending way more than makes sense on any 928. These cars come alive with every upgrade you throw at 'em. Go for it! Blasphemy to hear anyone say you can have to much brakes or too much HP. Sheesh.

If you can lock up the tires with the exisitng setup, then I don't see the point in upgrading, unless it's a track car and brake fade is a problem.

If you want better brakes because they look good and please you go for it.
whatever you do with brakes remember that more powerful vrakes will only stop you qucker if the tyres can hold the braking force applied.
My GTS [with the big brake calipers] has Hawk plus pads fitted and stainless braided lines. My 265 front tyres struggle for grip with this combo. Do you need this for street use? Probably not but I like it. I recently drove my friend's S4 and thought there was something wrong with his brakes. When I had my S4 I thought the brakes were great.
It's all relative- I wonder how many of the chaps who track the S variant have stock brakes?

As soon as I can afford it I will have bigger rotors and calipers on mine.

If they're cheap enough pick them up and store em in the garage.. I love the feel of the bigger S4 brakes vs. earlier calipered cars. They FEEL awesome in comparison, but do you need them for street driving? Probably not.
(they do look cool though.. )
-oh, post addition.. There are far more knowledgable folks out there for brakes, but check to see if they're the early variety Brembos with the odd sized pistons. Rebuilding these seem to be very expensive.
