Rich,
Not sure. We are heading out of EG on Friday AM as well. Are you going to meet up with the I5 crew at 9AM or fly solo?

We will go either way.

Might I suggest an alternative for anyone not in too great a hurry to get to 928Intl from the junction of 5 and 152?

Time of day on a Friday could be problematic. Beautiful drive though.

Very much so. We'd hit the 101 at about 3.

I plan to leave EG Friday just after 7am and meet the group at I-5/152. Want to head down together?

Highway 33 kicks ***! Used to take the 999R there 3-4 times a week. Great suggestion, Rob. This road is like a racetrack.
If you guys decide to head this route, give me a shout....it runs right past my house.
Also, FWIW, the 101 heading SOUTH on a Friday from this point (Ventura) isn't bad at all. North on the 101 out of LA is the problem on Friday's.

Anything heading East or South from 101 or 134 and the 405 on a Friday is a big "problem".

And if we go via 5 rather than the scenic 33, we can avoid SOME of the mess by taking the 210. Still, we will hit the basin about 2-3, which is horrendous., and will be stuck in a ~2+-hour parking lot until we get to the 57 South, unless somebody knows a secret route around this area. I've seen suggestions to head east while still north of the Grapevine but I think we would be trading distance for traffic and not save any time. But I would accept distance over sitting in a parking lot IF the total time is similar.

210 to the 57 is the only reasonable way to go. Heading South from the 152 to Diamond Bar is only about a four hour drive, plus any stops. That puts you going thru Pasadena (the worst part) at around 12:30 which will be slow but not a parking lot. Heading East on the 138 to the 15 will add about 2 hours to the trip and involve a lot of two lane highway with restricted passing opportunities. We're looking at 300 miles for range purposes.

Hi,

My plans have changed and I'll be leaving from Fresno, I-5 and 152 are a backtrack for me. I'll try to hook up with the caravan where 41 meets I-5 (Kettleman City). I'll just take 41 south from Fresno, maybe wait by the side of the road on I-5 trying to not look too conspicuous...

BTW there are lot's of alternatives if heading in via the 101 scenic, jumping off at Kanan Road, or Malibu Canyon, or even Topanga Canyon and taking the coast route into Santa Monica (this is the oroute I used to use to avoid 101 and 405 traffic into West LA from the Valley), then 10 east for a short bit, 405 south for a bit, 105 east for a bit, 110 south for a bit, then the 91 east to destination. May cut some time off the 210 run, and be more enjoyable for a good part of the drive, sepecially the canyon and coast parts.
