Default Headlight replacement

So, i have done the searching and haven't really nailed it down yet..
I have an 87 S4...pass. side headlight out...Gonna replace and was wondering the current preference for the bulbs..I am just now digging into all the terminology..a bit much this early in the morning...I just need to know which bulb to get that is locally available and has good performance with no modifications needed...

Plug and play if you will..I will change out both of them..thnx

You need a 9004 (aka HB1) bulb. Basic choices are an inexpensive standard 9004 or much more expensive slightly brighter and "whiter" versions, such as the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra. Go to your local autoparts store. They should have a selection of 9004s. There are a variety of "brighter and whiter" bulbs from differnt manufacturers, all still the same wattage (45/65), but I don't think they are worth the extra expense. You can get higher wattage 9004s, such as 80/100, but they are only legal "off-road". You won't see them on display and they do stress the wiring.

My car had the OEM bulbs with the "orange-ish" cast to the light at night. I bought the Sylvania SilverStar Ultra bulbs that Bill spoke of at the local auto parts store and now the headlights are nice, bright white light.

If one bulb is out, replace both... don't wait for the other shoe to drop. It will always happen at the most inconvieniant time.
