Default Front License Plate for Driving Test

Hello,

I currently don't have a front license plate but will need one this Friday for my driving test (already have a german license, but need a CA). I do have the license plate itself from the previous owner.

I would like to attach it in a way that lasts for 24h.
Any ideas what the easiest way would be?

Car is a 928S 1986.5 and the front has two holes already which don't seem to be matching the holes of the plate.

Thank you,
Felix

Hi Felix: Nice to see another German 928 owner in CA.

The frame you found at O'Reilly won't do the trick - what you need is a license plate bracket that screws into the holes in your bumper cover, and allows you to attach the license plate to it.

The fastest way to get one is probably to contact 928 International in Anaheim (www.928intl.com). I'd be very surprised, if they didn't have at least a hand full of those in stock...

If you're stuck head to home depot for some pieces of 1/2" thin aluminum and make your own brackets. If the holes are already there, the scary part is already done.

Get some plumbers strap and you should be able to attach the plate...use duct tape on the back side to cushion so as not to scratch the paint.

I have a spare plate bracket you can borrow for the day. As I am in school out here in CA (but registered in MD), I pulled the front plate off. I don't need a LIDAR detector on the front TYVM. If you want it, email me at tveltman[squiggly-at-thingar]stanford[dot]edu, presuming that you are in the Bay Area. If you are down south, call up 928 international first thing in the AM. I'll bet they will help you out. Also, can you just stick the front plate in the window?

I believe California requires a permanent attachment. Not sure the driving tester would check very thoroughly, though.

Can you just borrow someone's car for the test?

Would you trust a driver who doesn't have a California drivers license?

go to HD and buy some of the heavy duty Velcro,
Radio shack also sells the stuff its very hard to remove the connection so it should stay stuck to the car .
What it looks like is small mushroom heads on stalks once these are together the are pretty tight.

clean the surfaces with alcohol then put the Velcro on the plate and position in the spot you want,
push firmly to set the Velcro,
I have had 2 different P cars with this fitment

LOL I didn't say "why can't you borrow someone's Maybach", I said "borrow someone's car". I wouldn't think twice about loaning out my old saab or my old forester to someone in need. Porsche, no, but that is a different kettle of fish.
