Default SCCA Race weekend at Sears Point (infinion Raceway) sept 2-4th / video pics up

Well, the 928 is all packed up and on the trailer. SCCA has their annual race at Sears Point. I havent been in a long time. should be fun!

We race late in the day on Saturday and at 2pm on Sunday. (2 x 30 min races)

practice and qualify on friday the 2nd.

Anyone around, stop on by! we are running with Group 3, the group with GT1, 2 and 3.

kind of scared about the carrocel, a downhill, left hand sweeper. better top off the oil with some amzoil.

my cars have done the carosel 1000s of times. never an issue.
I watched the oil pressure down the carocel, never varied more than down to 4bar, just like turn 2 at thunderhill.

reved it to the rev limiter several times during each race, with some very heated battles going on . never a lap that wasnt 100% effort. !st race was aweseome, as my fight for 3rd place was back and forth and in the end, i was able to nose ahead for that battles win against a very stout 500hp mustang.

the car ran like a champ. never an issue, but the brakes are still lacking a bit. I need to either find a different pad (running pagid black) or get the larger diameter rotor set up. what i might do, is find a way to use the cayanne rotors that are 14".

The races were pretty exciting. in the first race, the monster 67 mustang, blew its engine (shifting regulary, its very built up ford engine up to 7800rpm)
Im trying to get a copy of its dyno sheet, as i believe he is even wasting power by reving so high,or at best, gettting a marginal advantage. with 12 hous on the motor, its coming out.
we had some winning times were in the 1:43 range, I took at 3rd in race one running 1:47 in qual for both races, and 4th in race 2. Race two was exciting becasse Andy Sutak in the 550hp mustang, spun, and then in a fit of rage, burned rubber to get back straight again and spun a couple of times, as I got up to him. front cam video didnt capture it, but we got a little on the rear view cam. then, near the end of the race, one of the Transam wining cars of last year, this GT1 corvette, spun and sat middle of the track at the end of turn 2 bringing out a red flag eventually. we ended under caution.

the AV8SS really know how to run a series. we are getting more and more participants and we have a couple of parties that you dont find running any other racing series. barbaque, prizes, etc, drinks! its a pretty fun weekend.
I hope not only scot and Rick petty join us soon, but tim as well!! any others want to run and have some fun????

next race is laguna seca!! Oct 1-2

that is NO reason to not run. let me tell you. we have 15 cars out there and its growing to 20. hopefully , we willl break the class into two sections. over and under 7:1 weight to HP. but until then, its really the experience to run with such a great group and awesome sponsors. the main thing is that you will have some GREAT racing, even back a few places. some guys are running even as slow as 205 in some stockish mustangs. after all, anything can race, as long as it has a V8. ITE is neutered, so there are only a few cars there and they are all 1:50ish. AV8SS kind of killed that really cool class , of ITE, but thats the way it goes.
however, once we get all the NASA meatheads and their mustangs and camaros out there, we should have a few more cars. a few vets too would be good!

Isnt Tim going to make it out with his monster hybrid, mutant 928?

by the way, did Tim put a sequential shifter in there , or just a vet transmission? LS7 now, right?

I think you mean Larry...& yes he did install (or will be soon) an Emco sequential 6 speed like the C6R's use (LG motorsports sells).....which makes me wonder what he did with the normal vette 6 speed he modified to fit in the 928? Hmmm, not that I would know what to do with my left foot in a race car anyway....

He easily could run AV8SS....of course 440 cubic inches makes everything seem fun!!!!! Don't forget the guy that runs Bob's old Vette and there is a few V8's Miata's too....

The EMCO is in and the shifter is on the TT. Going to do some testing before we try to figure out how to flat shift with the FAST XFI ecu. And, we're also waiting for GM Engineering to tell us if we can cut the new LSX-LS7 heads we ordered from them that were spec'd with 1.550" spring pockets, but came in with 1.320" pockets. They were sent directly to West Coast Cylinder Heads for porting work, but they didn't even know about the 1.550 requirement, so said nothing. Don't want to cut thru to the runner and then have two sets of ruined heads.

BTW, what is the AV8SS event shown on the TH calender for October 12?

Looks like Oct 1-2 at Laguna followed by Oct 21-23 at Thunderhill.... The Thunderhill date is the same weekend we will be racing at Infineon in Lemons.....

Larry's 928 is perfect for AV8SS...... Hopefully next year? MK-Rick-Scott-Larry...maybe me or Sean....

BTW Sean has the former Hatfield car running well......11+psi of boost through the 5.4L engine makes for a ROCKET....estimated 500whp.....he might bring it back to norcal soon and drive it here........

Congratulations on a good weekend.

Ran the Yellow super charged car at the track for the first time today I did 3-15 min or ten lap sessions with no over heating so I would consider that a sucess.

Next issue is oil blowing out the breather if I rev over 5500 rpm

Car seems fast 5000 Rpm in 5th at the end of the straight in Calgary not sure how fast that is but sure felt fast. ( no speedo)

I would love to run the AV8 series if I can get the car sorted.

Sean

5000rpm in 5th is FAST....since the car was built for ORR it probably has a 2.20....that would be nearly 170mph....if its the 2.75 its still 135mph....

The video is up , both rear and front view cam.
Lots of great audio, banging off the rev limiter down the final straight for the drag race to the finish. (end of the video, rear cam)
