GTS Rotor options
Sometime this winter I will have to do front brakes. I measured the rotors and will have to replace them this go 'round as they are too thin to turn. I see a few options for standard S4 rotors but not any for GTS 322mm. Other than OEM at $250 each are there any other options? I don't have to have anything slotted or hole'ed as I don't track. I may do some DE next season as I should have everything well sorted by then but that's about it.

I think the holed 965 rotors work fine... I know my holed rotors on BOTH my GTS's were less than (or right at) $100 each...but I have slept since then, so maybe I dreamed it...

Thanks James. All the online catalogs list those cast hole rotors at about $200 each. Can the same series (965) rear cast hole rotors be used on the 928 or is there a different part number for the rears with cast holes?

Shot Roger an email over the weekend but haven't heard back. From some of his past posts I see that he has the 965 cast hole rotors James mentioned along with a 951 part number for the rears with either cast or drilled holes. If I stay with OE fronts for $50 more each, then I can put off changing the rear rotors. If I go to the "holed" rotors up front I would want to do the rears at the same time to keep the look. I don't really need holed or slotted rotors as i don't track the car. It might also be easier/cheaper to have the plain discs turned at a later date.

I have holey rotors on the rear only of my GTS. As a thrifty son of a gun I am patiently waiting for the front rotors to get thin enough to replace with the blessed rotors. And yes I understand holey rotors are for looks and water egress not more stopping power or better cooling.
I have a 55 bar bias and it is too much. With the ABS off the rears lock up under high speed heavy braking. They don't with ABS on, but cause ABS to kick in too soon.

Part #'s for GTS Front, S4/GT/GTS Rear Holey Rotors
Code:
Front GTS drilled right rotor 965 351 046 00 Front GTS drilled left rotor 965 351 045 00 Zimmerman rear drilled rotors (2) 951 352 041 01
I went with solid/nondrilled rotors on my GTS:
front rotors 928 351 045 01 and 928 351 046 01
rear rotors 951 352 041 01

Big Brake choices for the front ... solid 928 rotors, solid or 'holey' 965 rotors, or two-piece 993TTs with Lindsay racing custom hats. Recently shopped all three and hard to find any under $200 ea ... and, as often turns out, Roger has best prices I found.
Rears are same as used on early 944T, I believe '86 - '89 cars. These are pretty widely available, either solid or holey.

I raced with the holey 965 (964T) rotors which are identical to GTS , but with holes. they cracked as they always do after 3 race weekends. now using solids and after getting a used 31mm thick one, i turned it and its lasted all season so far. getting a little crackly now, but should finish out the season i would imagine.
anyone got any used GTS rotors that have a 1mm lip?

To turn the hole'ed rotors takes a neutral or positive rake cutter and a slow hand to take off small amounts with multiple passes. Most shops will not have the correct cutter or the willingness to spend the time to do it correctly. Then there is the need to re-chamfer each hole to remove the sharp edge. I think you would have to find a shop that does a fair number of performance cars and is familiar with the challenges of working with slotted/drilled rotors. In the end it may just be cheaper to replace once the labor cost is figured.

Dang, I want drilled, slotted and Cryogenic treated rotors mostly because I think they look cool. And as a local PCA dude told me, you can’t put a price on cool. I had to agree with him and promptly started saving for all four.
