Default Technical bulletin 9110: Unnecessary replacement of coolant pumps

Interesting stuff to be found in technical bulletins

"Parts testing revealed no defects on a high number of coolant pumps replaced for leaks.

Sweat at sealing areas, usually white grey or green grey depending on coolant color, does not justify the replacement of the coolant pump. A small amount of coolant loss from the breather hole of the coolant pump especially during approximately the first 1000 miles of operation is normal. The coolant pump only needs replacement if there is a noticeable leak, like coolant on the garage floor or if the coolant level drops below the minimum mark with a cold engine because of coolant pump leaks."

Porsche was getting hit with too many "warranty" claims where the dealers wanted to do pumps at Porsche's expense.......

Water Pumps should be replaced every 10,000 miles or 12 months which ever comes sooner - you know it makes sense 8>)
