Brake fluid change - how much fluid ?
I have tried searching for this here and in the car manual but I just cannot find out how much brake fluid is needed for a change?
Car is 1995 GTS.
Thank you.

IIRC its less than a litre (approx 2 pints)
But if you don't know when it was last changed buy a gallon of cheap DOT 3 or 4 brake fluid and use that to flush out the old crappy stuff. Once the cheap stuff comes through clear then bleed in ATE super Blue or equivalent.

Thank you very much for the info and the scanned in page. I guess I should have been more precise (as my car manual is). My version of the manual reads as follows: "Brake fluid reservoir: approx. 0.2 litres....". From this I jumped to the conclusion that the 0.2 litres is the quantity in the brake fluid reservoir which might not be all that is needed for a change... What do you think?
P.S.: Asked Official Porsche Centre and the answer was: "don't know; the mechanic is given 1 litre and if he needs more he asks for it.."! (for amusement sake: Porsche 1 litre brake fluid = £17.32 plus tax).

I use DOT 4 brake fluid from a local car parts store.......I buy 1 litre at a time using a power bleeder to flush out the old replacing with new in the entire system; 4 calipers and the master cylinder paying less than $10 CDN

Yes, I will be using the Mobil DOT 4 brake fluid (a bit more user friendly than the Porsche version but I do need to know how much to get since it is not available at the local store - about 2 days delivery). Thank you.

BTW......I didnt scan the owners manual......they are available online through a Rennlister, Andrew Olson
1 litre is plenty......if you get a different colour as to whats currently in the system it makes seeing the change at the bleed nipples very easy.

Thanks for finding that capacity list. Never knew the brake fluid capacity, although I figured it was quite small.
I thought it was a smart idea to alternate between ATE Super Blue and ATE Gold (clear) colored brake fluid. So, I used some Blue when I did my first flush and ended up using slightly less than 1/2 quart to get a very deep blue fluid coming out of all the bleeders, matching closely the color that was in the can. So, that's about twice the system volume. This made sense to me as there will be some mixing as you flush.
I thought I was so smart until I did the next flush with clear fluid two years later. I ran more than a quart through, but the fluid coming out was still blue. Not dark blue, but blue enough that it meant it was not fully flushed. I think I ran almost 2 quarts through before I gave up and decided that was enough despite still seeing some blue tinge to the fluid coming out of the bleeders.
So, at this point, I'm not sure what constitutes a good flush volume, but I run at least a quart/liter total through the system.
On 5-speeds, don't forget to flush at the clutch bleeder too.

Not just owner's manuals, the tech. spec. books, as well. BTW, "available through" does not mean you have to buy them, they're free. Hip, Hip, Hooray for Andrew, and thanks.
