FIXED: 94 GTS electrical issues, instrument display lights
Looking for suggestions on the following issues that popped up all at one time tehet other day.
FIXED: FUSE #25 had blown. It's the 7.5 amp fuse that controls the interior lights and display.
1. Rear hatch release isn't working
2. Digital display isn't working, no odometer, nothing
3. Fuel gauge isn't working
4. Oil pressure seems to work, but isn't going past 2 bar, so may not be working
5. Voltage meter seems to work
6. ABS light stays on after starting
7. Check engine light is on and stays on after starting
8. When ignition key is switch to ON, before starting, the only warning lights that are lit are the CEL, ABS and air bag. The air bag light then goes out. None of the other warning lights are illuminated at all.
Where do I start. I've got the wiring diagrams. I've checked fuses 39 and 41, the two 5 amp ones and they are good.

I believe the rear hatch interior light shorted, which is what bliew the fuse. That particular interior light has always been a pain. It doesn't sit quite right in the trim material cutout and the light frame itself has to be pressed into the metal frame inside the hatch just right so as to avoid shorting.

Congrats on the great showing in Savannah.
Good find. Some extra double walled shrink can be used to insulate terminals. Roger might have a VW alternative lamp.
The setup on the early cars is very similar and I've seen few with completely melted harnesses all the way down the passenger side of the car under the carpet.

Chris, thanks. Savannah was a lot of fun and the 928's showed very well.
That light must have 10 wires going to and from the light. Really a bizzare setup.

Bill - buy the VW interior lights from Roger complete with pigtails - the Stock Porsche ones are and always have been complete crap... The VW ones are nice - you can get grey, beige, or black they also better cover the trim around the stock openings - even if its pulled back from the edges a bit.

Alan, thanks for the info. I don't see it on Roger's website and have sent him an email.
How are the intake hoses holding up? Mine split around the breather holes, due to heat I think. I've replaced with factory new (ouch $$)

Bill, Just installed the VW interior lights from Roger and like Alan says, they work great. I used the www.superbrightleds.com 37mm High Power festoon bulbs that provide mucho better interior lighting. Part # 3710-xHP3. T

I've been using the VW interior lights in the upper locations on my '89 and '94 for 2-3 years. They are wonderfully safe, look right, and give great light as well - with the festoons Tony suggests.
