Default PO Jerry Rigging Wiring in the Spare Tire Compartment

Sorry to bother you guys with this BS, but the previous owner cut a brown and black wire in the spare tire compartment under the corner box, and spliced them into a couple of other grey wires. I have a couple of pics. Sorry it was from my phone. Can you tell me what wire he cut, and how this would affect the cart? I have a brake pad light on now, and my speedo only works intermittently.

Pisses me off when people try to fix things themselves, and do more damage than good.

Thanks,
Tom

Not sure, but it may be a bodge to get the speedo working. There is a wire from the speedo sensor at the back of the gearbox which runs through the spare tire well and then all the way via the fuse box to a ground connection at the dash. I had a speedo problem and traced it to this wire, which was bad somewhere in the part going from the rear to the front. I fixed it by connecting to a ground point at the rear. Your wieres look like someone did the same? Try pulling them apart and see if the speedo works?

Personally, I resent the title to this thread. I think the Phrase it "Jury Rigged."

Nope, that is the original phrase, but Tom's usage is also correct.

A false etymology is that "Jerry-rigged" was employed by World War II British troops to refer to the German use of scavenged parts to keep vehicles and weapons functional, from the use of "Jerry" as a pejorative term for German soldiers.

Seems to fit very well here.

Greg, I think that maybe I watch too many WW2 movies and History Channel. Probably where I picked it up.

Jerry, I think that maybe you are a little too sensitive about your name.

I still have not figured out what the brown and black wires are for. I reconnected them and nothing happened. The PO had them attached to grey wires with red stripes.

Leo, than you for trying to help. I disconnected the wires and the Speedo still does not work...only when I bump the pod sometimes.

I think some one MAY have suggested that the pins on the pod need to be cleaned.

Brown wires are always ground on a 928, brown with a black stripe, time for the WD's or Alan, who seems to have it all in his head.

As far as watching to much WW2 stuff, I hear ya.
I have heard that term all my life, at least you did not call the part "Jerry Built", which would not have been a correct term for it.

"Jerry Built", "Jerry Rigged" and "Jap Junk" were just a few of the terms that were, and are, common terms in the south, as I am sure you are familiar with.

There are other terms that are offensive in common use.

You can fix this Tom, I have faith that you can, and you have my phone numbers for help.

I got your back on car problems, so do not fear about trying.

I guess I'm just too young to know all of that WWII stuff.

I've seen that before - on a white car I owned years ago - a toggle switch had been installed there. I think it is done so as to defraud buyers, because that disables the signal to the speedo and odo. No it was not Godzilla and no I didn't drive around with no speedo.

Just kidding Jerry, but do you know the wiring in the spare tire compartment? I am still trying to figure this thing out. I reattached the black and brown wires, but nothing changed. I am still looking for help. Does anybody know what the grey wire with the red stripe is for?
