Default Power Stearing Leak

My PS started to leak shortly after I begain driving without belts.

Is timing coincidental, the belt missing has nothing to do with it, and I do actually have a problem.

Or

Could it be that the lack of pressure behind the seal is allowing it to leak when in fact there is nothing wrong with the seal?

Will continuing to drive it cause damage to the seal?

If I put the belt back on will it quit leaking?

Should I have some “Trans-X” at hand?

Or, should I just pull the system apart for a “refresh”?

Any comments greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Denny

if thats where you found the car and the leak then your transmission cooler line is leaking at the radiator.
NOTE the trans cooler is on the right side of the radiator. .
If you do have a trans cooler line leak, its a safe bet that all of the lines back to the trans should be replaced, if the lines leak or are wet over the cats then a fire could happen.

I f your driving with no belts on the PS,
then the rack should not be leaking unless one of the rack end seals has failed,
then one of the rack boots would also be full of fluid.

driving the car with rack and PS system empty should not cause further damage though i would figure that the rack is leaking or the PS lines are leaking for you to have the belt off

Thanks Mrmerlin,

It shed all the belts and so far I have only put the alternator belt back on.

It's a manual so the oil cooler doesn't apply, does it?

The fluid appears to be dripping from the passenger side rack boot.

Boot is split, dirt got under the seal(s), seal(s) busted. You're looking at a steering rack rebuild...if it even can be fixed. That looks like rust and pitting.
