Default power window

Early 1986...do the windows have some sort of circuit breaker? My passenger window sometimes just stops working..seems dead...let it sit for an hour or so and it works again. What would cause this? Thanks in advance. I also have an aftermarket spal power window switch that seems the same size, has anyone swapped out the switch? THX again

You have a broken wire in the loom inside the door. Try slowly opening and closing the door while holding the switch. A broken wire should show itself as you put tension on it by opening/closing the door while operating the motor.

I pulled my driver door panel, located the broken spot (insulation was good, wire broken inside), cut out the bad, spliced in fresh material, problem solved, works great. If you have a problem like mine, just run your fingers over the wiring end to end and feel for a soft spot, or a spot that flexes too easily, that'll be your broken spot. Or you could just remove the entire wire from the connector under the dash and run all new. That would last even longer.

Also, it's a good idea to go ahead and replace both window switches, regardless.

There is a thermal switch in the motor.

The motor gearbox and regulator have old dried up grease which will load the motor down and cause it to heat up. Also the motor could use a cleaning.

I removed the window motor and regulater as one piece.

You can check the window switches with a meter. They can also be cleaned.
