You know, many states don't issue or track savage titles back beyond a certain year.

For example in Colorado the salvage title designation only applies to the last 6 years. So register a car older than that and the "Salvage" will vanish from the title.

Different states and different insurance companies will issue "salvage titles" for all kinds of reasons. Then there are cars out there that were cut in half and rebuilt from 20 different chassis and never get a "Salvage title" because the insurance company was never involved.

Which really means the salvage/not salvage title really does not mean much other than a possible indicator to look closer at a car, which you should be doing anyway.

Brake pads. Not a deal breaker.

Wow, I know this area well. I was born in Kokomo about a quarter mile from where this car sits. Heck, I remember playing in those woods in the background of the second pic and my paper route was pretty much all the roads to the right and down on the Google map pic. Oh yeah, and my best friend from High School works there. I'll get the inside scoop. Might have to road trip up there tomorrow morning just for the heck of it.

Kurt,

Was born in Logansport and lived there till 2000. Most of my family work at KTP and still live in the area.

My dad still lives in Logan, and has told me to keep an eye out for a decent project for him. If you do go take a look let me know. May be a good start for my dad.

Thanks
Brad

Worst case, it has thrust bearing failure. So you are looking at a long block from Mark. If you don't want to wait to see if he does his end of year sale that is $3500. If you can wait (and he does the sale again) it is $1800. You would probably want to do an intake refresh and such while it is out. Another $1000. I would Porkension it, and put in an Obehave water pump. Another $1000. So for me, the worst case would be and investment of $3500+$1800+$2000=$7300. And you get a (looks clean in the photos) S4 with a fully sorted and up to date engine compartment. Still a smoken' deal.

Sold to a good home (I think). While Han's & I were kicking the tires wondering about some of the flecks in recently changed oil, a guy from Ft. Wayne whose 928 was rearended the other day came along. We all evaluated it together and discussed crank end play and thrust bearing failure. He bought it anyways and we hope to see him in Hell next weekend.

According to carfax it was a two owner car with the second one owning it since 1999. The interior was better than expected. Redyed seats looked better than mine and the rear leather quarters weren't warped much at all, but did have some cheese Sony speakers cut into them.

Beside totally shot motor mounts the car ran strong. Little more than normal chatter coming from the passenger bank.

The overall respray was a little crappy with some less than professional looking body repair in the rear. Couldn't have been too bad since the repaired the bumper cover over replacing.
