Question Can anyone help near SoCal - Torrance

So my 1990 GT came to me with a blown fuse on one of the radiator fans. I replaced the fuse and the second fan ran and then it didn't. Both fuse's are fine. I gave Art the cheat sheet on diagnosing the fan issue and we have narrowed it down to either a wiring break or the fan control unit. Both fans work with direct power. I snagged a used $70 replacement on ebay and we tried it with no change. But we can't be sure the fan control unit I got is good either.

So before we start tracing the wiring harness I wondered if anyone with an 87 to 91 would be willing to take a drive to Torrance and let us borrow your control unit for 10-15 mins to rule it out.

Lunch or dinner on me.

Thx, Anaheim is a bit of a trek so am hoping someone will be closer, though that is one option. I would rather buy a new unit than fix it too, I did look in to that but since I plan to keep the car for the foreseeable future I am replacing with new where available.

Dumb nomenclature question- fan controller under the passenger amp cover, or final amp stage under the front edge of the hood?

If the latter I have a spare I could pop in the mail. Not sure I can drive to Torrance and back this week, unfortunately.

It's not the "d" but the "t" that makes it a trek.

Yup, 29 miles... in Los Angeles, its about an hours drive one way. Its a thought if I go on the weekend but I have a day job so its just too far out to try Monday through Friday. Maybe this Saturday would be an option.

Rob, we are looking at the fan controller next to the passenger seat. I honestly think its the wiring, but until I rule out the controller for sure who knows.

If anyone can help that would be awesome, if not no worries I will figure it out. I do need to take a run out to 928 International anyway to get parts for the front spoiler but was not wanting to tempt fate with the 928 getting stuck in traffic with 1 fan with the temps we have been having lately. Plus I was hoping I could find someone close who could do a lunchtime or eve this week.

Just a thought, but it might be quicker and safer to just check the wiring.

That's right, for some reason I thought they were open Saturday. Still they open at 8am so maybe I can do an early morning drive over there and camp out until they open. Now do I go with the Dentist, Doctor or Dodgy Curry excuse for the late start

Greg: We checked the easy access wiring, but now it means digging deeper so we were just trying to be sure before we went down the rabbit hole. But looks like that will have to be the plan.

The final stage under the hood with the fins like an amplfier is by far the most likely failure. It is what reduces the voltage to run the fans at slower speeds and it generates heat in the process. Plus it lives under the hood a less friendly location. It is also what as a used part sells quickly BECAUSE they do fail. It also I believe is no longer available as a new part........was quite expensive.

James, I thought that item controlled the flaps? I looked it up and its described as AIR FLAP CONTRL UNIT is that the one you mean or am I looking in the wrong place? Also would that only effect 1 fan?
