Default Overbuffed Clear Coat - What to do?

What can be done with a po that went berzerk with his Harbor Freight account and just HAD to power buff that fender till all that ugly shiny clear coat was gone on a spot? Tar and feather, yes.

But what to do about the fender?

Not much other than tracking him down and kicking him in the nuts.

I have a clear coat burn on the BMW - on that one I had the pleasure of kicking the detailer in the nuts.

A friends wife power washed the clear coat right off of her BMW M3 convertible. Take yours to a paint shop, maybe they can re-clear it. T

I was thinking maybe there is a way to re-clear instead of re-paint.

Not a big deal to shoot some clear on one, I have done it twice on mine in spots.
Clear it, color sand and buff.

My local auto paint shop has a 2 stage clear coat product in a can. You bust the seal between the 2 chambers in the can and shake, and you have 24 hours to spray the clear coat before it hardens in the can. Lightly spot sanding the bad area and hitting it with this spray can clear might be a good temporary solution to re-spraying the entire fender or the whole car. Surprising good results from a can if you make sure you are in a dust free area.

Let me re-phrase "auto paint shop" to "auto paint store". These guys sell product, they are not a shop per se where you can get work done. I don't know how many auto paint stores are out there, seems pretty few. I'm lucky to have two retail stores in my small town for some reason...

Repaint is the only way to permanently fix the problem. If you look at the tech sheets for most automotive paints, you'll see a time frame that specifies how much time you have to apply clear to a base coat. That time frame is typically 24 hours or less. If you put more clear on as is, you're just asking for more trouble in the future.

The only problem with HF buffers is the attachment that moves it over the vehicle.

JH, this is what I do not want to do --- I am going to either drive the car as-is or try to get clear reapplied --- I know from experience that

to me at least, it is not worth while to try to repaint the 928
