Default What is a realistic price I should try to sell my car for?

I have been trying to sell my 84' for a little while now. I have to admit that I have not been putting much effort into selling it. My wife lost her job a few weeks ago so I need to get serious about selling. The car is an 84' with auto U.S. car that has 80k on the odo. Car runs and drives great and all systems function correctly except the AC which needs to be charged in order to work. I'm sure there is a leak somewhere as the AC worked when I first got the car and slowly stopped working. Unfortunately the car does have a salvage title due to a minor incident that happened with the PO. I want to get 5k for the car. Does this sound unreasonable as an asking price?

That salvage title kills it, dead. It is nice but nothing spectacular. You've been around here enough to know that value and selling price are two seperate issues. GLWS

If you "need" to sell it, make it pretty, recharge the AC, take lots of pictures and put it on Ebay. Anything much over $2500 though I think would be surprising.

Post more pictures of the car if you have them, including the interior. Also, what is the recent service history (timing belt, waterpump, ...). The salvage title is obviously an issue, and Ebay might be the way to go with a car like this. Set a reserve (lower than $5k if you are serious about selling it) and see what happens.

It only takes one buyer to pay $4k-$5k but people are DEALTHY affraid of any car that could/will cost them money right now so the market is dead.

If you need cash soon (next 30 days) I would agree with $2500-$3500.

Jim
Your 928 is nice......and I would say your price is about right IF it had a clear title.....the salvage title really kills the value...... In this bad economy values of all luxury items are way down, & 928 values have followed suit.....plenty of nice 928's out there for super low prices.....

I'd say the $2500 range estimate is probably where you will end up......or a price so low you might as well keep her!!!

just a note the front bumper shocks are pushed in so bumper removal and refitting good used shocks would be on my list of things to put right

I think its possible.
Very nice looking car from the picture.

Photos of the repairs could reinforce the thought that any damage was minor.

I love the 84 automatic car.
My daughter and her husband took ours (the Stan Shaw red one) and I really miss it.

I like the eBay idea.....put the car somewhere with lots of traffic ... Someplace like a grocery store parking lot with a big over the top for sale sign.....5k....and sit on it until its sold for 4800.00 or 4500.00

A salvage title usually takes 20% off the value from what I've seen. A 50% drop is usually for a real POS which doesn't seem to be the case here.

I sold a nice looking 86.5 for $5500 with a salvage title about a year ago and the AC was working, and it looked nice. You'll be lucky to get $2500 in current shape, no matter that it looks ok.

Sorry.

The bumper shocks have been replaced since that pic was taken. Not that it will matter much but I do have a copy of the incident report from the insurance company which details the extent of what was damaged.

if you look close you can see that the foglights are set back about an inch from where they should be. They are in the correct position now with the new bumper shocks.
