I have the euro block, someone is selling cam towers and cams, and all you need is the euro heads.

We did this evolution on Scots '82 all the way to the euro 5 liter though. the only thing reallly left to do would be to modify the injection system to use a MAF.

started at 217rhp and ended up with 295rwhp
5 liter, euro haeads, intake headers,

It is a 218,000 mile 273 cubic inch pushing a 3 speed automatic...... brand new it did the 1/4 mile in about16 seconds. And my guess is there are a number of things which are not working as they did in 1982.
Before undertaking any modifications you need to do compression test/leakdown test, check cam timing, check ignition timing and advance, check for stretched acc pedal (full throttle) ,check the wide open throttle switch .....get the kick down and linkage adjusted.
But you really would be better off to start with a 928 that has more potential AND vastly better brakes...plus a 4 speed auto !
Note that many things which make higher horsepower do so at higher RPM and have less torque at low RPM possibly making your car SLOWER at low speed....

Pretty much nothing reasonable that you do with that one is going to make it quick off the line or "feel" very fast, money you spend changing it to do so will be money down the toilet. If you really need something faster you need to start with something with the potential of achieving it. For me that means a 5 spd, which at least feels fast even if its not that different above maybe 50 mph.

Hi risaac;
Make sure everything is tip top first
Then the next thing you do is take the cats off and get a x pipe or have an exhaust shop build one like I did. if you have that big muffler change it for something lighter and straight through.
Expect more noise.

After that comeback and we will see how much you want to spend as HP cost dollars per HP

Brad he has a single pipe exhaust it is a Y-pipe cat set up now..... He can easily make it LOUD so it is obvious to everyone when it shifts that it is an automatic....The easiest bolt in is a replacement no cat Y-pipe (test pipe) it will fit right in.

Drive and enjoy it for what it is, a strong & agile long distance cruiser or commuter.
There just isn't any reason, other than competition driving, to stress the hell out of a 30 year old car.

Seriously.
+2. A US '85-'86 32-valve costs almost the same and with an X-Pipe and Porken chip will get over 300rwhp. That will be a HUGE power improvement over a stock US '82.

headers and exhaust should get you to around 200rwhp, and euro cams and get to around 225rwhp. Add a nice set of heads and euro intake and she should be around 250rwhp. She will be fun, to bad it is a auto!

Thanks for the feed back. I will try to sell my 928 between 4 and 5k. I will just sit on it until it does sell and use that money for a decent upgraded 928

A smart financial decision.!

moddifying a car has nothing to do with that though!

Smart decision. Never know, you might get lucky and find a decent 85/86 Euro 5 speed for around $5000.

...seems you need to assess how much $$ you are willing to spend to get the maintenance up to acceptable. This is true with any car.

Sure, move to a newer 32v platform for more hp, but that in itself is an increase in $$ spent from the '82 you have - do you have the addt'l $$ to get an S4? Solid S4 is over 10k, needing maintenance S4 is likely ~7k, then you have to do the maintenance yourself...which will arrive you closer to the 10k investment.

1) what do you want out of the car?
2) how much total $$ are you willing to spend (cost of car + maint)
3) how involved do you want to get with modifications?

Personally, I'd prefer your cheaper '82 with added maint cost req't, then spend more $$ to boost it to ~300whp. This of course if you have the $$.

Compared to switching to a stock S4, a bolt on SC would be lighter, faster, about the same $$ expense, but you'd get to know the car and enjoy wrenching along the way. Settle in with your expectations first.

Good luck!!

I have a silly question for you. Please take no offense, but do you really know how fast your car is right now? I literally had no idea how fast my 82 5speed was until I tagged along with AO and the Detroit guys on a fun run through the mountains.
I had my car for sometime before that, and didn't realize what it could do because I had never asked it to show me. My car is far from one of the faster 928's, but it turns out that it is still pretty f***in' fast.

enjoy the car the 3 speed is not as bad as some make it out.a nice clean 82 will still draw attention.as far as performance goes a lot of guys on this forum r living in a bubble thinking that s4 s are the only option or the best thing on the road.reality check guys u can pickup up a 1998-2002 f body with an ls1 for 5=12k and run circles around these s4s.i have my 928 because i like driving it the sound it makes and the feel on the road but lets face it the car is 28 years old.
