My first 928
Hi all just picked up my first 928, it an 85s auto with 99k
Its in very good shape I think.
I have one question, when i put it in to reverse it seems very harsh you can feel the car jolt and there is a creaking sound, any ideas.

Should not feel like that... I'd do a full fluid and filter change on the tranny and see what happens. It is a PITA w/o a lift, but not impossible. You just have to be sure everything stays CLEAN, CLEAN, CLEAN when doing it.

your trans may be OK ,
since this is your first 928 there are some things about the auto trans that are not similar to say a ford or chevy trans.
one of them is the delay when shifting from neutral to reverse,
the creaking noise could easily be the brakes and pads moving slightly.
You should check the idle speed of the engine ,
also check the fluid level in the transmission,
this is done by looking at the reservoir by lying down and looking in front of the RR tire,
this is done with car level and the trans in park and the engine idling.
dip your finger into the reservoir and smell the fluid if it smells burned then change it,
as well as the filter and pan gasket and also drain out the torque converter.
Use Dextron 3 or 4,
Valvoline Max life is good fluid to use it comes in red bottles

That's not possible without removing the transmission and TT.... Which is a major job, during which other work should be opportunistically assessed or performed, such as TT bearings (Constantine), elimination of the center weight in the TT, endplay confirmation at engine and refitting of an auxilliary clamp at the flexplate (either a Pklamp augmentation of the existing clamp or a Constantine clamp).
I have three automatics and they all clunk and shift into reverse fairly sharply.
If there is also a delay of 5 or more seconds before engagement, then the reverse clutch pack needs to be replaced.

If it is clunking in to hear rather harshly, chances are the vacuum to the transmission is not connected up, or leaking. I'd hate to hear that you are spending 18 plus hours in labor for a vacuum leak.

Ouch.
What SeanR said. The vacuum modulator needs to be connected to the line from the engine (near the brake booster).
Also I would suspect bad transmission mounts. They can collapse over time. Does it shift hard when driving in gear (1/2 shift, 2/3 shift) ? How about the vacuum actuated vents. Do they work correctly? I would troubleshoot all the vacuum lines (A mighty-vac can be helpful here) to rule that out as you will be paying steep dough if you need to drop the trans and cant do it yourself.
Congrats on the last car you will ever want! PORSCHE 928!
