Default Good bye ghetto fab speakers!

When I picked up my 928 in April I quickly realized that the one spot on the whole car that never showed up in the pictures were the speaker locations.

Someone had installed these ghetto speakers in the car and tossed the factory units, grills and all in the trash.

These were barely holding onto the doors with 1" spacers. I was constantly sticking my hand in them while trying to find the door handle.

I found some reasonable 4" speakers and 5.5" covers to replace them with. Looks and sounds much better.

Not "perfect" but MUCH better.

Default Focal

Cole, That looks much better. Went with 3 way Focals in the front powered by a Kicker amp, and a 10" BA sub powered by a dedicated Kicker amp mounted on the rear seat delete. Worked out great. T

Those speakers make a BIG difference, Cole!

It makes you wonder "what were they thinking" when they installed those ghetto speakers in a 928?

Just curious: Did any of those require cutting into the sheet metal of the doors?

No cutting was done.

They just spaced out the speakers to make them fit......thankfully. on my 951 I had to weld sheet metal back into the doors to fit factory size speakers.

On this I just had to use the larger grill to cover the mounting holes from the previous speaker.

I think I would have looked into using the new speaker setup from Hans, but that is just me.

For the moment it looked like too much waiting and too much money.

Maybe in the future.

I understand that.

I also am going to have a hard time changing my MBQuarts out for Hans new speakers, but I feel like I need to to be able to show folks how good they are when done right, maybe I can sell the MBQuart speakers here, they are pretty good.

i have got the Sharkwoofer and it is exceptional, and I say that after replacing the two 12's I had in the back, it is very good.

I really am interested in how the whole system is going to sound, the Carputer, his new speakers and the sharkwoofer, my guess is that it is going to be outstanding.

Cole,

Looks nice. What speakers did you end up installing? Were they Hertz, or did you just find a stock-is set of Hertz grills? I may have a set of smaller ~5" grills here if you need them, but I personally dont find those larger grills to be unattractive at all, they look very similar to the grills that I am having made now, just a bit bigger.

Please document the speakers you used, and if they worked in the factory location and bolt pattern. There are so few out there that do, I think it is important to keep a record of them for other owners looking for upgrade options.

Thanks
Hans
