when you put the pump back together use STP oil treatment to sort of fill the gears,
make sure every part that slides on another has lube on it same for the shaft.
I suggest to use Dow Corning 111 silicone grease on the O ring it will keep it soft and then the O ring will slide into the engine easier without getting pinched

NOTE Also fit the oil pump to the block prior to tightening the girdle otherwise you may have fitment issues.

NOTE both of the dots on the gears must face the engine block the outer ring had a small bevel on one of its outer edges this must face to the front of the car or the pump will seize

NOTE if your swapping out the aluminum gear for the steel gear then the 1mm spacer thats sits behind the aluminum gear is deleted

did you remove the block girdle?
if so,
fit the oil pump to the block with the girdle loose,
then snug the pump then tighten the girdle make sure the pump spins

if tightening the oil pump bolts makes the pump not be able to be turned freely then there is something wrong with the assembly, stop and investigate

Torque once around at 11 pounds and then once around again at 14 lbs. I've also seen 11 and 15.

Wish I had seen this a few days ago. I had a terrible time getting my oil pump back in, using just oil to lube the O Ring, and ended up actually breaking the O Ring and having to order another one. That sucker just did not want to go back in.

Can you post pics from the block side?
You first torque the two bolts on the block side then you do the third one thats on the girdle. The shop manual says 11ft.lb first time around and then 15ft.lb.
