Thanks. Good to know. I've changed key heads before when I had the newer style key with my previous S4's. Agree it's NBD.

Does the lighted OB head come off the same way as the "newer" head on that link? The OB keys are a little different/bigger.

You need my key back to cut from right? i.e. You cant cut from a picture, or can you?

David
The $35 includes the blank and cutting. Sorry but we cannot cut by picture so we would need your key back but I show we sent blanks to Stuart at Keys 4 Classics just recently so I wonder if there is a communication issue.

Stuart has a note on his website that he's closed until July 20th for family reasons. Hope nothing serious and just a vacation or something. Maybe I called someplace else and thought it was Keys 4 Classics who told me they only use generic??? Anyway, good to know I can get the new style head, as long as I cut a new key.

I've got four old style keys (two lighted black and two red non lighted, no valet) --so kind of a bummer I'd need another key just to get the new style head.

One last thought...How about those little metal crests? Do u sell them loose? Wondering if one can fit in the negative crest space on my OB key? I'm thinking NO.

We do not have the crests and I've never heard of them being available.

I'd like to think that someone on this list has removed the old plastic key head and trimmed the metal underneath to accept the lights new style head. It can't be that hard.

Roger said he had a ton of the crests for $8.00 each. That was in 2008 though. I just PM'd him to see if he still has 'em..

I guess I could experiment on one of my extra red key's... I'm assuming the metal is the same as the lighted OB black key -- just with a red PU molded head - or am I wrong?

Still have plenty of the crests. Don't know if they fit the earlier keys.
Give me a few mins and I will try one.

Works fine and just needs a strong adhesive.

You have the little crests in colour Roger?

Cool.. the only factory source (part no) I've found for the key-head crests has them in Silver, from 928 Specialists - so my 89 S4 now has one silver-crested and one colour-crested key

I've got the same "newer" key head on my 79 as I do on my GTS.
Replaced both as the crest fell off one and the light would not work on the other.
The metal keys were the same, the GTS was a bit longer due to the car having an alarm, but the key heads fit both of them.
Good time to upgrade to an LED light on the head as well. I've got a decent right up that I emailed another rennlister if you want to PM me.
Here are a few pics of the GTS key. The other is the same.

I like the OB head, I just wanted the crest -- as I like the gold crest aesthetically. I'm glad I can add one to my OB key (thanks to Roger).
I was planning to do an LED upgrade too. I'll PM you for your instructions and thanks in advance.

The OB key is a little different -- so I might have to improvise but I've had it opened before and it's kind of the same but different in there. As the old key head with a light is now NLA - I'm inclined to keep it for nostalgia reasons but "modified" with a crest. Still good to know I can go with the newer smaller key head if even I feel the need.
