Default OB Key mate to a new crest key head?

I've searched and think the answer is NO, but want to double check. Is there anyway to get a new style key with the Porsche metal crest head onto my OB key? Here's my OB Key type it's the old style fatter head. It's got the light and the button on the other side (yes the light works )

Check keysforclassics and see if they can make you a duplicate the will fit the newer key head.

Good idea but my understanding is they won't cut keys on a Porsche key. They use generic blanks with non removable heads.

I wonder what happens these days if you order a new key from Porsche from Vin #. Would they cut a old key onto a new key as apparently they don't make the OB keys anymore. Anyone know the answer? Probably not going to go that route though as I don't need another key and I think it's over 100 bucks to get a key from Porsche.

When I purchased the 91 GT the driver door key did not match the rest of the keys. I went to Porsche and they said they cannot rekey the lock. Sent it out to Tony and he rekeyed the lock to the other keys.
Here is his contact info.

Hope that helps.

Keys for classics will cut to a photo. They guarantee the keys they cut in this manner, because they are a closer match to what you have (worn). They will also cut to a code, but cannot guarantee if it works. You can get either the "generic" key, or the Silca blanks. They will cut a short OR a long key, also you can get the Red Valet key. I do not know for sure if they sell the key heads, but you CAN get a key from them that will fit one.

I suggest sending them an email, much more information can be had that way. My key from them works like a charm.

Keys4classics can also provide the factory steel Huf brand keys for short or long (i.e. alarm) locks. The steel Huf keys are the ones which fit into the later lighted key head with the small color Porsche badge on it. They also have the Porsche factory short-key blanks with the red head.

The steel key is more than the Silca one which you can't remove the generic head from - but you end up with a much more "Porsche" looking/feeling key.. so its all I've had from them.

Reminds me, I need to order a spare for one of my cars from them - I already have a few spare key heads in the drawer.

I recently had Keys4classics cut a Silca and Huf for me from a photo of my key. They were a pleasure to deal with and the keys work perfectly. As far as I know, they don't sell Porsche key heads. I bought mine off ebay.

+1 on K4C. My GTS came with only one key. I sent them photos of it, and about a week later I had a new Huf key (sans head) that fits and works perfectly. Quite a bit faster and less expensive than what Porsche wanted for this. I also called half a dozen locksmith shops locally, including some pretty specialized ones. Nobody here was able to cut 928 keys.

We supply them with factory key blanks so that should not be a problem. You can also send us your key and we can copy it on to a factory blank and install the new key head.

I had called them a few months ago and that's what they told me at the time. Do you mean you send them the key part with no head? They told me they only sell the non Porsche generic key with the fixed (non removable) heads.

What do you charge to install the copied old style key onto a new head?

We charge $35 to copy the key and the new head simply slips on.

They sell the keys you are talking about, AND the ones that Mark is talking about. The Huf blanks do NOT have a head, you have to buy it separately. Huf keys are factory keys.

It takes no time at all to install a head. No reason to pay to have someone do it for you.

Mark, could a local walk in during regular business hours and walk out with a couple of key copies or does one have to call first?

$35.00 for the blank and cut or $35.00 just to cut? You just rekeyed an ignition for me to my original key. Wish I knew to ask you to do do this too.

You need my key back to cut from right? i.e. You cant cut from a picture, or can you?

David
