Last week i got a set of Euro cams, cam towers, and Heads from England. cam towers are out getting powder coated and i sent this set of heads off to competition engineering down in cali to get redone. old engine is out of the car, and the new (to me) , late style cross member is installed.

i was going to build this set of heads for later, but i think i will use them and sell the early set to fund my MS III conversion. i have a set of rebuilt 79 euro heads, cam towers, cams (need to be cleaned and a few lobes have pits) ill post a price once i get everything together and a picture taken.

once i get the long block assembled and done, i will install the sucker and get to work no the MS conversion. not looking forward to reinstalling the double clutch... that was fun just to get out, can't fathom what it will take to get it back it. should be simple... but we shall see.

clutch is pretty straight forward and not too bad. if i can do it on my back in a parking lot at the track in 3 hours, you can get it in no problem!!

Mark,

When you use a spacer you also lower the pickup and change the marks on the dipstick. You don't just add extra oil.

A quick measurement of the 'ID' of an oil pan gasket (approximated as two rectangles, 390 x 262 plus 160 x 292mm) gives a cross sectional area of 1489 cm2, times 0.9525 cm (3/8" thick spacer) gives roughly 1400 cm3, or 1.4 liters of additional space inside the crankcase. If you add an extra quart of oil in there, aren't you sort of defeating the purpose of moving the pan away from the crank?

Thats just it. You DON'T add any extra oil. You use the same quantity of oil, only it's a little further away from the crank.

No worries, the extra quart is stored in the heads at high rpm.

today I'm using robs sonic cleaner to clean up the lifters. the big step today was lightly bolting on one of the euro heads and using playdoh i pushed town on the valves at TDC and checked to make sure they cleared the edges of the valve cut outs. and they DID!!!! WOOT. i know this will be an interference engine, and I'm sure when i bolt everything up and get the timing belt on, i will be ok. being the piston chases the valve to head. getting close!
