not really. the wheel and tire combination generally end up weighing the same.

I think the difference is this is more "performance" oriented. 18s or 19s look the best to me on a 928. However, 17s will probably lay down the best lap timing assuming the car doesn't have rotors bigger than 330mm.
lap times are identical going from 17s to 18s. 17s are a little more tunable due to more sidewall and greater effects for varied pressures.
rim goes up in diameter, but rubber goes down in sidewall, and its about an even trade off. rims are 19lbs and tires are generally around 27lbs. so the unsprung weight generally stays the same

too little to measure by a dyno. generally a 10lb wheel differnce might make 1hp change in 4th gear, and a pretty significant difference in 1st gear.

one advantage would be resistance to wheel lockup.
generally, for every 1lb on the wheel, its like 1.5lbs as if it was riding in the car.
on the tire diameter, its more like 2x. thats the net net on the straightline performance side of things

Default Not all 18's are created equal, even if they're more or less the same size...

Sumitomo 295-30R18 on 18x10 ET54 10" Cup 4 rim: 56 pounds

Yokohama Advan 005 301/28R18 slick on 18x12 ET ??? Kinesis rim: 41 pounds

yes, there are hugh variences in tires and even more with rims C2 replicas are near 27lbs and kinesis K18s are only 19lbs and thats for a 11" wide rim. tires same thing. 30lbs to 25lbs depending on the brand and type.
