Default WYAIT is a disease ....

I took my gearbox out earlier this Spring, I suspect the input bearing is on its way out but the shop I took it to has a full workload and will get around to it eventually. Should have taken it to them before everyone got their cars out of hibernation but didn't happen.

Meanwhile I have these parts laying on the garage floor looking like they need some attention, what started as a degrease and clean morphed into a more involved exercise.

The pictures here show one part nearly completed ... there are others in various stages ...

That is the dirtiest moving dolly I have ever seen. But the other parts look great. Awesome job!

Wait till you get that dirty tranny near the new powdercoated bits.... You'll have to break out the polishing rags for it too ..

(Where's the sway bar...have to show a pic of that one too )

Hey Tom we all know who started this crazyiness

Once the tranny gets back I aim not to see the underside for a while, behind the wheel is much preferred. I will post pics of the other stuff as it comes together.

Indeed, WYAIT is a disease, it creeps through the whole car. In my case, WYAIT started at the front with a blown headgasket and could not be stopped before it reached the far rear end of the car at the rearbumper. In the meantime, it effected the steering rack, fuel lines, clutch, TT, brakes, front and rear suspension, brackets in the rear inner wheel well. I hope my rear suspension will look as nice as yours does after assembly.

The Dolley has seen engines and gearboxes, that thing is a work horse and invaluable when there is no one to assist. Well the wife and teenage daughters but not like I am going to call on them unless things get desperate.

I got the new bushes for the rear sway bar so put that back together, old bushes were not too bad but for $20 or so for the pair and knowing how hard this bar is to get at with the axle in seems like a good opportunity to replace ... (oooh that slippery slop again).

Powder coated the bar red just because, black seemed so plain

Well I sourced a used gearbox so picked my old box up from the shop, used box does not have LSD so will need to swap that over some time in the future but wanted to check out the condition of the unit first.

Fitted the transmission and TT as one, interesting doing this without help but somewhat gratifying even if my arms ache today.

So looking at condition of the various bit off the car the old handbrake cable looked like crap but spending nearly $300 on a new one I just couldn't bring myself to do it when the old one worked just fine. So there are limits to how far I will go Also the used box could do with a clean .... exterior condition is much better than my old transmission. Fingers crossed on the interior.

Old handbrake cable before I cleaned off the rust and painted.

Some shots of the work so far, taking a break and will get back to it during the week.
