Oil analysis on Estate after 48 hours on track!!!!
I just got the 4th oil test for the 928 Estate......PERFECT RESULTS...lead and silicon are back down.....everything looks GREAT.....the only thing even slightly off was a bit of fuel in the oil, due to it being taken cold after starting and running briefly.... I can live with that!!
This used engine was quoted to be as 117k miles when I bought it for $300! Its now up to 49 hours on track and counting a year later!!! Here is my fairy dust tricks to keep a 928 engine alive on track!
1: Run quality oil, I use Amsoil racing 15-50 and change around 12 hours
2: Run the "OB" oil pan with 3/8th spacer
3: Eliminate all breather lines that inject oil into intake, cap them and install a K&N breather at the oil filler cap 1" port.
4: Keep rpms reasonable...I use 6000rpm max. (since my powerband dies past 5500 anyway) I would go higher if I had a euro or S4
Bottom line is I am STOKED..... this engine has made 200whp-ish the whole time and still runs well..... No accusump & not even an oil cooler!!! However I think both are good ideas, especially in higher HP 928's

I think the new engine in the Widow should get Amsoil. If the Widow could go be raced for a year without blowing a motor, I think that would constitute scientific proof of the Amsoil theory.

However I think the next generation of the Widow that Sean is working on will work...for a while....accusump + everything I run should do the trick.....
While I think Amsoil is a quality product...I do think other high end brands like Redline or Royal Purple also make quality oil....any will work....even dino stuff if you keep it cool enough...since I don't run an oil cooler and my oil gets a bit warm on occasion I like the "safety net" a synthetic provides vs dino (say Brad Penn or torco)

damm this is a tough crowd
lets play a game....a well known 928 engine builder told me "torque wins races, HP sells engines" .........................who is it???
I like the extra torque my engine makes.....just ask the miata's what happens when I stand on the go pedal!
