while your inspecting things,
take a peek under the dash at the pushrod clevis and pin,
if they are original then they might need to be replaced, this will restore full motion to the clutch.
I have replaced a few sets of these parts

It wasn't making a noise all the time.
And if this is happening, it is probably because the TT bearings are no longer in their correct positions causing the driveshaft to vibrate too much which is what caused the bolts to loosen. Happened on mine, and not even longer bolts with lock nuts on the other side and red locktite would hold them.

The squeak could be the pilot bearing in the rear of the crankshaft, into which the nose of teh clutch driveshaft fits. You will be told that if it is the source of the squeak, touching the clutch pedal will not affect the squeak. My experience contradicts this.

I replaced a failed clutch bearing in 2000 and again in 2004. The second time, I heeded the advice to prise off the metal shields, clean the bearing, repack it with fresh grease and replace the shields before I fitted it. It's not making any noise yet.

Your red car seems to be in very good, preserved, overall condition.
There may be a lot of life remaining in most of the parts.

The noise source possibilities raised in the thread by the real experienced guys are interesting. Subscribed.

Damn, never heard of that, a vibration loosing red locktite on a small bolt like that, break yes, loosen no.

good to know

Hey guys,

I am going to order the bushings everyone has mentioned, plus the helper spring on the pedal, due to mine being in three pieces.

How does the wear look, when seeing the inspection hole? Also, it only creaks when depressing the clutch slowly. Can it be a bad bushing on the clutch release arm? Maybe it needs grease?

use hi temp grease on the ends of the push rod
if it has gotten wet then it will rust and then creak.

While your messing with the helper spring also remove the clevis and pin on the clutch pedal pushrod inspect for wear before you order the other parts

Question is do i even to replace anything clutch related, short of bushings and maybe some grease?

Looks like I did a bad job updating my posts. Both times my problem was the release bearing.

Ok, the creak is coming from inside of the bellhousing.

you need to inspect all of the parts that have been mentioned,
before you order anything,
any parts that have play should be replaced

Good point. That does make sense.

I thought you told me it was the shaft? Because it sure makes sense. Well, okay, throw out bearing design fvckup both times.

We can all inexpensively leave these stupid clutches in the dust with the pieces Mike Simard makes to use Tilton plates.
