Can someone tell me if this is an 86.5?
I don't think I have ever introduced myself but will make it short names Alberto work and go to school in IL. Dad owns a very small dealer and he gave me a 82 928 we got for cheap when I was 16 and that started my addiction. That is the car in my avatar I was going to part it but my uncle stepped in and bought it so it at least stayed in the family. This morning my dad sent me some pictures of a 928 for sale its an 86 but would be even more interested if it was an 86.5 I emailed him back for the vin so hopefully he doesn't get too busy and can send it to me. Site it is on is blocked so I can;t look up the VIN myself. I would be buying it with zero maintenance history so I know I would need to spend a few thousand at least to get it up to date, so if it was an 86.5 it might be a little bit more of an incentive. Any help in determining if this is an 86.5 please let me know. Thanks guys rock on.

look at the VIN # if the last 4 digits are above 1000 then it is an 86.5

A little trivia for you that you may appreciate. A few years ago we confirmed "0999" was also an "86.5". So much for Porsche documentation, as usual :-)
Come out and visit us sometime,

Just got the vin last 4 are 2086. What would you think would be a good price? I would have no maintanence history so that scares me and 104k miles.

The intake was painted at some point so it may have been refreshed.
What is the mileage?
If it is a basket case (paint/interior) then $2000. If it turns over and drives, $4-5000. If it has history, $8000. But that is ALL subjective. It's missing a radio which may mean other problems have happened along the way...
Here are the option codes:
M018 Sports steering wheel with elevated hub 30 mm
M139 Seat heating system, left seat
M319 Changed step-up of fan
M340 Seat heating system, right seat
M347 Forged wheels platinum-anodized rim 7x16 tire 225/50 VR 16
M418 Side protection moldings
M474 Shock absorber (sporting), front and rear
M490 Sound package
M494 Additional amplifier
M533 Anti-theft device
M570 Air conditioner with improved efficiency
M650 Electrical sliding roof

Well it's hard to say on price. It is an 86 1/2.

Needs MM's.
Don't drive anywhere till fuel line refresh.
Check lower A-arms for the part number; and post pictures of front brakes.
We've seen a few 86.5's whose differentiating parts have been pilfered before being dumped onto the market.

Motor mounts? and if I end up buying it I will for sure post some pics. And your bolded statement worries me. Part of the reason I would be more inclined to purchase it would be because of the upgrades if not I wouldn't really be interested in it.

Three Wheelin'
If you have the ability (time, cash, tools) to fix it correctly... or like myself, have friends that know how to fix it correctly & will help, then you may have a decent car... The dash is pulling up, cant see the rest of the interior (probably has multiple issues as well if the dash is that bad), the radio is gone, the speakers are aftermarket, some air vent fins are missing... this is the EASY stuff to maintain. The engine may have had some work done, but if the air cleaner is upside down then thats a warning that the PO or his mechanic didnt know the car very well, or he went on the cheap with repairs. The intake has been painted and not well... the rest of the engine, tranny, rearend, suspension is a crap shoot... you just dont know without documentation - even then ???? If it runs your looking at $3-4k to buy and much more $$ to make it decent. There are plenty of 928s being listed everyday on EBay with 100K miles that have been maintained, are well documented, and will cost much less in the end to buy & enjoy NOW. Hell, theres one or two on here all the time I'd keep looking myself, but thats just me...
