Can someone tell me if this is an 86.5?

The engine is sitting so low, looking at relationship of yellow oil fill plug to the crossbrace, and other reference points, that I guarantee it needs mounts. No big deal, but indicative of maint. level.
Yes, the word is on the street about 86.5 having upgraded suspension, as is the word about how to acquire the parts to upgrade any earlier car. Check or take the risk, your choice.
One guy (claimed) to have sold his car, had to reposess it, and discovered the parts had been swapped off it (actually the next unhappy buyer discovered it , IIRC). Never bought the full story myself, but there was definitely some scamming going on somwhere. A good samaritan rennlister(s) actually sanitized the situation, but the point is simple: pretend you are from the 'show me' State.

It is an online auction which I don't have access to from work. Which also means we cant verify anything. Our IT dept blocks online auctions. Had my father put in some bids for me was the highest bidder at $2000 waiting seller approval.

You'll have fun, I bought my 86.5 for more than that with all the problems, but I had found this list and I knew what I was in for. It now has almost 170K as a DD (nearly 40K mine) and I love it! Take Chris's advice: FUEL LINES, and don't skip any either! If you like to wrench you'll have a ball. One of these days cosmetics will float to the top for me, but not soon, lot of other stuff on the list before that. Good luck!

That seller is high on crack. Sold mine for $4500...it was wayyyyyy nicer. Not to mention a "real" aftermarket (Jager) shifter...Kinesis wheels...service history, etc.
Hold out, there are much better deals out there right now.

Absolutely there are!!! I paid what I consider TOP DOLLAR for mine... $11,300. It was "well sorted" - turn key and drove it 1200 miles. Of course the wheels came with it and they are sooooooo sweeeeeeeeet - that saved me about $4800 You can find plenty of well taken care of 928s for a lot less than what I paid and still have a very nice turn key ride

How about a "Want to BUY: 86.5" thread? You may find a Rennlister ready to "move on", "upgrade", or "thin the heard". Alternatively, there are several guys here that like to "assist in the hunt"...so to speak.
Lastly, wait for the right example...it will appear.
