My goal would be to get it running reliably first. Safety second, so it that regard
Get it to spec or better, upgrades where sensible to brakes, lights, suspension, fuel lines, ignition wires, not too extreme in cost! I'm finding any of the repair parts are expensive enough without trying to make it into an S4.
I have taken an old 1990 volvo 16v 740, and over the course of 3-4 months, and maybe $800. made it handle like a very nimble sports car. Poly bushings everywhere strut tower brace, chassis brace, upgraded the sway bars. Made a fantastic difference in handling. I'm afraid, to do the same, to the 928 would require several thousand dollars, and much more time, to get anywhere near the difference in feel. But I'm starting from a much higher level too....
I love the way the car looks stock. I may do some minor cosmetic enhancements, but again nothing extreme.. play with interior lighting, upgrade to LED maybe, get the seats done, my front air dam is missing, the result of the PO having it removed from too many scrapes! But other than that, nothing stands out as needing change!
I just wish there were more suppliers in the midwest!

Just to clarify, I agree, improving lighting is a good idea, but I don't consider it a "performance" upgrade. To me, "performance" involves things that make a vehicle go faster, stop sooner, and turn better. I can see how reasonable minds would differ on that, though.

If i can see it better, i can stop faster. Just like improving the brakes......
seriously, I just hate the old USA grade lighting. Drives me crazy when you see what was available then in Europe and even better what's available now!!
I do like a car that handles well, even over speed, makes it feel quicker if nothing else,....

PorKen's chips really wake-up the 85-86 928. The performance is on par with most modern performance cars. Also, performance street brake pads (Pagid,PFC,etc) and quality tires (PS2, etc).

Three Wheelin'
Can NOT wait to install them... Brakes are great & I've got 18" wheels with Hankook Ventus 12 tires - really great, but watch the throttle when its wet... I believe they are "summer" tires
