Default Harness -- Source of 85 Intermittent Stall / Video Clip

85 Platinum car, "Van Winkler", runs very strong.

When it decides it wants to run, that is.

Seems maybe we are dialing-in on the problem ----

Yep! Dealt with that one myself. In my case it was where the harness ground connections at the back of the block. my guess is if you tighten them up, all will be cured.

Chris,

I am sure you may have already checked (or replaced) the Impulse Sender, but if you haven't I would check it first before considering replacing the harness. When the connectors for those are disintegrated, sometimes even a tug on the harness like that will kill the engine. Especially if things haven't been completely secured back there, or in rare cases even if they are.

Probably tossing out the obvious, just wanted to be sure. But the way it seemed to have died in the video, it seemed like the ignition was cut, which made me think of that sender.

Thanks to all. I remembered AO talking about the harness a while back.

At least I've got the general area nailed.

One very weird thing, not shown ---- With key on, after car stalled, wiggling the harness caused a "click" on front of engine. Repeatedly, like a relay. Not the TPS, too faint. Like a relay. AC clutch???? Can you think of anything else on front of engine that could make that sound? If not, why AC clutch? It was off / isn;t even filled yet.

I had resoldered a new ring terminal, but need to check my work.
Might have stressed the wire where it breaks out of harness.

Brand new CPS / harness side connector appears solid and mounted in bracket.
It and connector are still suspect, though!

Finally am dialing in on the stall problem.

Just pull the connection to the AC compressor clutch to rule that out. If it is energizing with the AC not switched on, then you have 12V short inside the harness. Only other thing I can think of on the front that might click - starter solenoid - but then the starter should turn. Not sure about ABS. Oh, there is an electrically controlled valve in the gas vapor recirculation circuit, at least on S4s.
