Cool '86.5 PK Black Edition

A work in progress.

Late '86.5, 5-speed w/LSD, X-pipe, sunroof deleted, full cage, stripped interior, 944 turbo cup mirrors...

Roughly 2900 lbs (1315 kgs) with 1/4 tank. I figure bumper and headlight deletes, plus some other non-essentials should get it close to 2800 (1270). My goal is 3000 (1360) w/driver.

I forced myself to get it running right before putting in my chips. Was pretty peppy. Today I put in a S4 FPR, V3 S300 chipset, PKlutch, and wired up the No-Lift-Shift. OMFG! I could hit 140 in 4th with my '85 5-speed on my 1 mile test road, but this one...well let's just say I flat shifted into 5th and was still accelerating before I had to hit the brakes...

I'll update this thread as I add/delete.

I reckon I'll have to. Even have a stack of extra rims with some (old) race rubber.

Have all summer to fix the breather system, and all the other tweaks...

Ken,

What did you need to do to get it running right?

Agreed on the loosing of the glass!

Also if you want to do a proper cage, you should come up and we can build it. Or just change the faux door bars to proper protection. Maybe gut the doors too!

Oh and of course, you do know that you really need to put cams into this car too!

I see serious weight savings potential in the side moldings...

Actually Ken,
When I get home you should drive it up. I want to possibly arrange a trip down to see Louie. But at the same time, I doubt that they would like me taking down/bringing back my corner balance scales!!!

First thing was to replace the (new, Chinese,) water pump with a loose impeller. Not technically a problem, but I replaced the GMB (green seal) PKT pulley with a proper INA (black seal), while I was in there. (New crank seal, and crank idler pulley delete too.)

Since this car came from back east originally, all the bolts have lost their plating, so I had to put a whole bunch of shiny flange head bolts on.

Tuning wise for well running stock, just a rebuilt MAF, CO/idle adjust, fixed a loose FPR vacuum hose, and a loose plenum connector hose clamp. Then I put in some non-resistor NGKs gapped to 1mm.

I was a little apprehensive about putting in my chips, because it seemed fairly powerful, and this is the first time I've gone straight from stock to the fully badass (WOT unlocked) S300s, myself! My worry was unfounded. With my chipset, it feels like I and I can drive ~1.5 gears higher, and it needs just a tiny bit of pedal to cruise along in 'lean mode'. The shifter is loose, so it's easy to shift 1-4 accidentally. Not much of a problem anymore. (Especially with a PKalm. )

The hatch glass has to go fer sure. I've been dreaming for a long time about replacing the entire hatch with a sheet of acrylic (with a lightweight tube support frame) - may have to actually try that. When the car begins to feel slow after a while, I'll probably move on to the rest of the glass.

Once I save a few Loonies, maybe I'll come up and get a quick Canadian install of said cams.
