Your son and I have a lot in common. The 81 in my garage is the same 928 my father purchased when I was 13, he let me drive it quite a bit once I got my license. I didn't have to pull a "Risky Business" either
I didn't want to see it go back in '00 when he put it on the market. As luck would have it my 944S had just threw up a rod bearing and I didn't feel like fixing it...

I am really sorry this had to go this way, but there seem to be people with chips on their shoulders and no matter how humble you try to be, its not going to work. I guess I will enjoy my 928 with some other gents. I Really thought the 928 crowd would be quite abit more mature than the 944 Turbo crowd. I really did, and to say I am dissappointed would be an understatement.
The 911 still carries its motor out back tranny in front. It still can finish a race with all its coolant gone so it still has MUCH aircooling left. I was hope we would all could just get along. But I guess not. To much negative energy here inferiority? I dont know.

OG,
grow a thicker skin, they were simply poking fun at you.
You came here posted a sarcastic thread, then as soon as someone makes a sarcastic poke right back at you, you get completely and utterly offended.
Trust me, the 997 isnt going to get hurty feelings because some internet tough guy called it a poser car. You really dont need to defend its honour. When it is in the hands of a pro on the track it does that on its own.

OG,
I have to agree with Colin - you made a funny remark about a 928 and I read every response and laughed at every one. Not one was snide in any way - go back and read all again.
This is an awesome community - and yes we can be tough - but not in this instance. Lighten up a little and enjoy the ride.
The 997 is a great car but making comparisons with an 82 928 is a little one sided.
I think "Circlex" summed it up perfectly - compare apples to apples and then make fun of the 928.
Relax nobody is trying to hurt you and it is all in fun - that is until you post a (what type of oil should I use) thread 8>)
Best,
Roger

what i don't understand is you buy a 928, join the forum, make friends and then trash talk about the car? even all the 928 from 78 to 95 are different in power not to mention a complete different breed! as of the ignition switch on the wrong side, just use your left hand to insert the key

Starting a thread like MAJOR DESIGN FLAW in the 928
is like jumping in a SHARK TANK at feeding time without a cage and asking do you guys bite?
Yes the thread has been better than reality TV lol
Mostly everyone here is joking around don't take things personal when someone talks about a car.
Enjoy both cars,I'd still like to have a 997TT

Hell, I take it as a compliment when people compare my 24 year old car to new stuff.
Tells me a lot about others thoughts on my car.

Wow, OG went from "Thanks for the welcome" to you guys are a bunch of jealous meanies so I'm going to go play somewhere else all in the span of two days...
OG, I hope you stick around so we can continue to hear about your car. I do wonder how someone could become a lifetime member around here with such a thin skin. Maybe people are nicer (less sarcastic) over on the 997/911 boards; although, I wouldn't think so based on what I see in OT.

Hey Old Guy,
This is a good forum and the people are very nice; they also enjoy poking a lot of fun. Most of us all have a lot of respect for the 911 but for whatever reason we fell harder for the 928. I would love to have both but my garage is not big enough. My dad had 912s back in the day which is what got me started down this road. I for one liked the start of your thread and enjoyed the comments--yeah it got a little chippy but don't be discouraged--you will find good friends here and the help you will sure to need when your car cuts out at 60mph on the freeway and won't restart.... (pst--check the fuel pump relay).
