I guess that the Old Guy failed to notice that when he puts the crank through the front bumper cover and radiator in his 928 and cranks it to start it is turning in the opposite direction to the model T Ford that he learned to drive in.

The whole idea behind having the key on the left side was for the 24 Hours of Le Mans to free up the drivers right hand during the traditional "LeMans Start"

This practice ended in 1971, in favor of a more traditional starting procedure making the left key location irrelevant.

Proving the 911 is the ultimate poser automobile.......40 year later still keeping the key on the left side to make every 911 / Boxster owner feel like a race car driver on their way to Häagen-Dazs for another tub of ice cream.

Nice thing about being a 928 only ever Porsche owner is that everything is exactly where it should be!!!!

A common expression here in RHD country is that any car with its turn indicator stalk on the LEFT of the column is going to be a lemon, or at least spend lots of time in the workshop......928, Range Rover, Disco...I have experience of all now.

Really if you think about it the 928 was made to take you GT style from Germany to France in a few hours.
Where you would arrive in comfortable state of mind with no stress or fatigue.

The key in the 928 is on the right side so you can turn the key and release the e brake at the same time.
The 911 also has this key and E brake idea as well, though the 911 heritage was meant for racing

Right in one!! According to page 98 of "Project 928," Porsche recognized the potential for disorientation among current Porsche owners. Therefore, a primary design consideration for Porsche was that the key be in the same position relative to the flywheel when looking towards the cockpit.

i think the fact that most people are right handed means the ignition is on the correct side whether the car is lnd or rhd.

If you think the 911 is a poser, then what the heck is this originally $50K 928 that BARELY break the 8 second barrier in the 0-60 time frame?
If I raced my 911 and my 928 to 60mph. I could do 60 in the 911, get out have lunch and still have time to clean the finishing area for the 928 to arrive. All in a car that costs ~$25K more than the 928 did 29 years later. Pretty DAMN impressive for a poser.
Not to mention Porsche STILL makes the 911

are you talking about comparing an 07 911 to an old 928?seems a little unfair why not compare same year models the early car is twice as quick as the early 2,7 six cylinder slow boat.

I thought his post was pretty funny. Bad OldGuy comparing a 928 to a 911 that's almost 30 years newer! You should choose a model year to compare performance, maybe 1987? And the 911 is still around against the will of Porsche due to the endless sea of ignorant people who would only accept a "real" Porsche as one with an air cooled engine mounted largely behind the rear axle

P.S. Wanna race 0-60 with this 20 year old 928 with over 230k miles on the odo?
