BLUF: Car is a 1987S4 US spec auto. Do pins 2 and 3 on the CPS (car side) both go to ground? Pin 2 is Brown and Pin 3 is the EMI (or some other shielding) shielding. See below for the rest of story. Thank you.
Need some help please with the crank position sensor (CPS) wiring (car harness side). I recently replaced my CPS while taking shortcuts; basically only removed the airfilter assy and MAF. I was able to get the CPS out after about an hour of screaming, but damaged the wiring to the connector (car side). I diked the connector and spliced in new wiring, but did not check ohms readings before doing so. On the Schematic (assuming RPM-Sensor=CPS), it shows pin 2 (brown) going to EZK CU 6 and pin 3 (shield) going to EZK CU 24. Mine both go to chassis gnd. Is this correct-I wish I had checked the splice point values prior to heat shrinking the hell out of them.
On a side note pin 1 (white) does not shoot to gnd.
Well, went for broke and hooked it up-car starts and runs fine (drove for about 10 mins). I assume that if they were both not supposed to be gnd that it would not start (or run properly).
I replaced the CPS connector harness side with no issues but I used a connector off of a used harness so cut the wires a few inches back from old and new connectors then spliced, soldered and heat shrunk each wire.....no problems.
I was just worried that I had got a few strands of the shield soldered to the brown wire on accident. I was very unwilling to cut all of the heatstrink (I went overboard). Did you ohm check at your completion?
