Default 3KT's '79 OB Restoration Thread

Inspired by SITP, I'm taking the 928 in to get painted tomorrow by A & Wiltz in San Jose. I'll be following up in this thread with before pics tomorrow, some in-progress pics in the weeks to come and after pics in a few weeks. I need a couple parts asap: The front vertical grill pieces, at least one back bumper shock (maybe two, and maybe a bumper cross beam), the back quarter window seals, a left-side mirror rubber piece and the bumper beading for front & back. I'll eventually be buying all the exterior seals for the car, so if anyone's got any spares laying around and want to give me a good deal, I'm all ears.

This is a big step for me, as I've muddled over it a bit in the past about keeping it or selling it. The paint job and parts are going to cost a lot more than what I paid for the car or could sell it for, but she's going to be a beauty when she's done.

Here's a list I put together a few years ago of all the seals (not sure what the OST part is, but if it's not OEM, I'll be looking for that too):

928-025-255-00-OEM Front Sidemarker Seal Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-731-247-03-OEM Mirror Base Seal, Left, 928 1978-91 Brand: Genuine Porsche

928-537-085-03-OEM Window Roll Up Guides, 4 per car, each Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-543-037-04-OEM Quarter Glass Seal, No Spoiler, Left Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-543-038-04-OEM Quarter Glass Seal, No Spoiler, Right Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-631-924-00-OEM Rear Tail lamp Seal, 928 1978-86 Brand: Genuine Porsche
OST-928-512-129-02-M136 Rear Hatch Seal, 928 1978-86

928-537-321-03-OEM Door Weatherstrip Outer Window Seal, Left, 928 Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-537-324-03-OEM Door Weatherstrip Window Channel Seal, Right, 928 Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-537-323-03-OEM Door Weatherstrip Window Channel Seal, Left, 928 Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-511-141-03-OEM Front Hood Seal/Spacer, 120mm, 928 all, 2 req 1978-86, 4 req 1987- Brand: Genuine Porsche
928-025-289-02-M136 Front Bumper to Body Seal, 928 1978-86, sold in units of one meter, order quantity meters required Brand: OEM

Wish me luck!

Nice. I will be watching as well. Please post pics of the process.

The right quarter window seal is still cheap. Less than $70 from 928 specialists ( non spoiler)...but you may have to wait for it.They have a good price for it though. The driver side is $$$$$ so a good used one would be nice. Does your car have the S spoiler??? There was a guy in WA that was parting a nice car a while back. I bought several seals that were very nice from him for my son's car. ..but the parts car had a spoiler so the seals were different.

What color?

You know it Dave! You should come by one day while it's in progress and check it out. I'll buy lunch, cuz having you roll up in yours would undoubtedly lend cred to the whole situation.

Sounds like fun, bit of a hike for you from East Bay though, isn't it?

Definitely a hike, but I used to do it every day when I worked in Sunnyvale. Judging by some of the other cars he's doing and done, I think it'll be worth it. finger's crossed.

Great news. Another old bugger 5 speed getting the business.

Is the paint shop doing all the reassembly work for you?

Might as well get the seal for the rear hatch lock while your at it.

Good luck!
