Default CLutch likes to take a coffee break?

Hey guys, I get in the car for the first time today and it was like on break or something. Nothing worked, it sounded like I was putting it in reverse with NO
clutch. Then in about 3 minutes of me trying everything it went in gear and everything was honky dorky.

Any ideas?

Couple of things can cause the clutch to be a little intermittent. One is trapped air (of course). It can be super hard to get all the air out of the line and if there is some in there sometimes the cluch will work and sometimes it won't. Look up a technique called burping that will get all the out quickly and easily. Another possiblity is that one of the disks in hanging up on the splined shaft it rides on. The shafts wear and the disks can hang. Happily shafts are available (for the moment), relatively cheap, and not too hard to replace. I'm gonna say Burp, baby, burp.

My money is on the clutch master seals. They can sometimes play up, replacing them will probably do the trick.

and (BTDT) if your gonna replace the clutch master do the slave at the same time. Bleed from the slave by simply pushing the rod in and out a dozen or so times.

Fraggle no reason to post twice. As far as the SEARCH goes, I always search FIRST but our search engine
is prickly and with 10,000 posts I KNOW its prickly. IF its late and I dont come up right phrase, I might not get what I want.
So there is no reason NOT to post if the search engine isnt being cooperative. If you think its a silly post then there is always an option not to READ it or certainly dont POST!!!
I have YET to find the perfect search engine

Given that the car has been driven very little in recent years all kinds of things will start to appear as it is driven. Stuff that has not moved much in years is now expected to function well. As to the current dragging clutch not letting you shift into gear hard to say but air bubbles , fluid issues tend NOT to go away. I would suspect that one of the discs was hanging up on some worn splines of the short clutch shaft. If it happens again have the trans in gear clutch pedal down ( plenty of open space around you should the car move) and start it. With it already in gear you can then let out the clutch and move away. Once driving the clutch disc rarely would hang up. Also possible that the pilot bearing is going bad and spinning the driveshaft with the clutch depressed. Not that it will fix this...might make it worse..the brake fluid needs to be changed every two years.

When I replaced my master cylinder a while back, i replaced my clutch slave cylinder valve with one of those one way valves. that and using a power bleeder got all the air out of the line.

That was a fun experience... (not!) Bleeder nipple on the slave cylinder helped.. Best wishes with it..

Default Thomas,

I've got an auto, and although my left foot has been trying at times, it still hasn't found a clutch pedal to push.......

Paul. Sometimes Rennlist hangs and your post doesn't look like it goes so I have posted twice a few times myself. I swear I clicked the button but it doesn't submit so then I click it again and viola, two posts.

BTW, who do I tell Jeff Dalton I was chatting with. You must not have seen my PM I sent you.
