To where does the oil escape?
Both left and right banks use them?

Okay so I had a Porschepalooza tonight...drove to Yonkers to look at a very sad 86.5. Ebay purchase-lots of money in ($5000 for the car, $6000 for parts and labor) and it's worth about $4000--that was the Indian Red/Guards Red one...the car's paint needs recovery; the interior is a basket case...
Then I drove over to Connecticut to see Sam's car-in this thread (with an added bonus we stopped over his dad's to see his 996 Cab-NICE CAR in the same color as Sam's 928!). And I got to see Sam's green 78 Euro---drooooooool....5 Speed....
Anyway-I am on the fence. It does have the sport seats and I had them all the way forward for me to get full clutch throw. The shifter is short so it was good.
I was so unaware of how much power in first gear that I nearly threw the car into the concrete dividers on the on ramp----WOW!!!!! This car is top notch. Eats up bumps with new shocks. Great rubber. Great brakes. Great clutch. Interior I'd give a 7 out of 10 for the dash and 9 out of 10 for the rest. No smells/odors/etc.
Car shifts and synchros beautifully. Clutch was easy-if not long. Getting used to the dog-leg first was a bit of a personal issue....and it is SO throaty in first...
This is a well-loved regularly driven car. If I don't buy it someone here MUST! All it needs is a radio and an AC fix; show the dash some love when you have time but by no means is it bad.
The paint looks great; 3-5 footer. Wheels and rubber as sexy!
Yeah this car is WINNING! (Duh!)
On the way home to Long Island--black 928S (maybe 85-86.5) was in the HOV lane on the LIE heading to Long Island. Told the guy to go to 928oc.org and hopefully he heard me...sweet car--if you are on Rennlist identify!

My wife loves my shark so much that I am thinking of getting a second one. Though cashflow is tighter than I would like right now.
A 5 speed would be nice and I do like the looks of this one. Have any of the Canadian crew brought one in from the states? Are there any particular hurdles..smog certification, etc. I see that it has the mph/kph speedo, so that's plus.

Seriously! Michael, if you are ready to pick up another shark, this looks like a great option. Given your experience with your last car, I've been kind of surprised at your apparent interest in potentially picking up another unloved example in some of the other cars you have mentioned.

Trust me I have to sleep on it. I want to have cash reserves for the what if's; plus the A/C I want working so that could get expensive fast.
Unfortunately the other cars have looked good in pictures, descriptions and promises; but in person the truth comes out quick...records promised but not shown...

Do you think you could live with the manual, and the seat forward position it forces on you?
I couldn't, which is why I sold the GT after 8 months. It was OK for a test drive, but didn't work for me long term. Given that you are a bit less than my height, that's something to consider.
Otherwise it sounds like this would be a great one for you!

think about how large bearing clearances will affect oil pressure.
Then think about what up to FIVE (maybe 1/8 inch holes) holes in the main oil feed to the top end will do when uncovered?
The oil just bleeds back down to the pan at lower RPM.

You do not need full clutch throw, just enought to disengage. The only time I push the pedal way down is when I start the car.....and you can ADJUST the pedal heights including the accelerator pedal and the left foot dead pedal.... Even the shifter angle is easily adjustable. I have my brake pedal very low so I can hit the gas easily with the side of my foot.

See this thread by Porken for the info on factory part numbers - something like a 15mm extension to move the pedal surface closer to you.

In addition to adjusting pedal heights, there are also factory extensions for the brake and clutch pedals.

And then you have PorKen's clutch stop, which apparently is very effective on the single disk clutches.
This will help you not feel like you need to depress the clutch pedal ALL the way down.

Just sawthe car and was extremely pleased with it to say the least. I couln't believe how much there was of a difference off the line between my auto and manual car - manual feels alive. I think if Mike won't go for it, I'll convince my wife that red is not the only color that looks great on 928s
