Default Electrical Contact Cleaner?

Ok,

I've read about "deoxit"? And it sounds fantastic.

But, I can't find it around here!

Radio Shaft has something that they claim is the same, but I don't remember what they call it.

Other places have stuff called "QD Electronic Cleaner - Qyick Drying Formula by CRC".

Also "Technician Grade Battery Cleaner 'with ACID INDICATORS'" by CRC.

Anyone know about these and if they are any good, and, what their actual uses are?

And, WHERE does one get the REAL "Deoxit"?

WD40 works great, and leaves behind a preservative coating.

Default Google it.

It's made by CAIG Laboratories. Great stuff. There should be somewhere fairly close by where you can source it. I even found it up here!

If you have the time to wait for delivery, just get it off Caig's web site or even Amazon.

Also see this old post, which includes some links.

I use the CRC in indutsrial applications and it works just fine.

WD-40 is not good for electrical contact cleaning unless the contacts are oil-fouled or water-wet. Then you need to figure out how to flush the WD-40 out, and whatever you use for that could probably have been used instead of the WD-40 to start with. WD-40 is essentially a blend of dry-cleaning solvent with a very light oil as lubricant. Valuable as a water-displacer, washes dirt/crud/some light corrosion out of moving parts and leaves a light oil film for initial lubrication. Good until real lubrication can be applied.

I just changed all my rear bulbs and wanted to "deox" them but didn't have any "deoxit" so i used "CRC, QD Electronic Cleaner" and a wire brush.

I went from a "break light" warning after going over bumps, to a constant "tail light" waring. All lights are working fine. I have not yet changed the side markers. Are they included in the "tail light check"?

I did buy "cheap" bulbs and not sylvanias as these: http://www.sylvania.com/ConsumerProd...lacementGuide/ does that matter that much?

I went looking for Deoxit and found a list of retailers - to my surprise, the distributor in Winnipeg was right next door to my office, literally 100 feet away! Walker over and had some if 5 minutes. Now on my second can. Works great, especialy with all the corroded grounds and wiring our cars see.

Try this distributor list:

The distributor on the list is outside of Winnipeg.... Please let me know where in Winnipeg you bought it (to save the drive outside of The Peg).
