Default A/C blowing hot air and more...

I just replaced spark plugs, oil change, fuel filter and had a shop fill my A/C.

When I picked up my car it ran smooth and nice, the A/C was blowing cool air, not really cold but decent. I started driving home and all of a sudden I smell smoke from benieth my car and I see smoke coming from under the front of my car. It was enough to see a trail in the rear view mirror. I pulled to the slow lane and after a 1/2 mile it stopped.

I checked the temp, 1/4 (good), oil pressure was 5 (good), electric was 12 or so (good). Then noticed my A/C no longer was blowing any cold air, it was mostly warm air (I live in Miami)...

Anyone have this happen to them....?

I guess I need to check the compressor, condenser, evaporator, accumulator and expansion valve, any ideas where to start...?

You need to find out what was smoking under your car.

I replaced the clutch only and the new one was destroyed 100 miles later by the partially seized compressor. When I opened up the compressor I found one of the pistons had blown.

Thanks I will check the belts and the compressor.
I for sanity sake checked the oil level and it is fine, the radiator fluid is good and I do not see any oil leaks after parking the car over night. The oil pressure is good, the motor runs smoother after the tune up.

When I push the A/C button normally the engine idle fluctuates a bit 100rpm less for a second or so, this tells me the A/C is on. Now when I push the A/C button nothing, the engine RPM does not react as if it is taking on a little more load. So I think the compressor as Ducman stated above may have seized or blown...

Could the A/C seizing or failing explain the 30sec of smoke...? Because it has not smoked since and runs great.

I will update after I look around the motor...

Check the A/C clutch first before you go and start replacing all your A/C components. If it is the clutch, it can be replaced without opening the system at all and having to deal with refrigerant recovery/refill. I had a similar cloud of smoke on my 968, and it turned out to be the A/C clutch.

I checked the compressor and the belt to the compressor is still connected and the compressor is spinning when the engine is on. So maybe it is just the clutch that burned out, when I push the A/C button nothing happens, no noise from the A/C kicking on just warm air. Could the clutch still be the only culprit, it would be the cheapest fix so far.. : )
