This picture has been tossed around several times. We have not heard officially that a new GT car will be produced. I have no doubt that Porsche is working releasing one which will be reminiscent of the 928.

They recently said there will not be coupe or cab derivative of the current Panamera.
Two possible reasons I heard:
- The Panamera has been so successful, they don't need the additional models
- There were some issues with torsional rigidity of the unit body when they tried to turn it into a cab. It would have been too costly and heavy to fix this.
A new generation of Panamera should come out around 2015.

If the sedan length body is not "stiff" enough...the coupe will be better....
However the pics of the next 928 in the photos look quite good to me.... Some I like...some I don't...while I am not a big fan of the panamera....the photos of the next 928 look quite sharp....in 2012 they would be quite tempting!

There are no photos, and there won't be any of the next 928. Because there will never be another 928. Never, ever.
They might come-up with a fancy name for a Panamera based coupe, but it sure won't be 928.

I hear some people are expecting ford to reinvent the Edsel......That artist rendition above would only fit drivers less than 5 feet tall.....or it has really big wheels And moving the windscreen cab back that far on a Panamera chassis would be a huge task.

The Panamera looks like a swollen 928 at best. Nothing can replace the original 928 series, but a new version with modern electronics and other technical updates would be a home run IMHO. I'm currently focused on major mechanical updates and my 10 foot paint job still has people asking how my new 89 Porsche is? Someday a new coat of paint will happen.

I was at Brumos last week & spent some time with their General Manager. When we were looking at a Panamera on the showroom floor, he insisted that I take a seat in it. Very nice. I asked about the potential for a 2 door version that had been talked about by 2012. His reply was that to his knowledge a 2 door version was still in the plans. Who knows, I guess we'll see.

Want to know what Porsche has in the coming months?
Just in:
Carrera and Boxster S Black edition's
997 Speedster
1-3 months
Cayman R
Panamera Hybrid
Before the end of the year
GT3 RS 4.0
Panamera Turbo S
sometime in early 2012
Porsche 991 (next 911 chassis)
Sometime after that
Porsche 981 (next Boxster / Cayman)
991 Turbo and GT Variants
late 2013
Porsche 918
and sometime in the unknown future you have
Cajun (Audi Q5 junior Cayenne) Just confirmed for production in Leipzig
Mid engined sub boxster model? SPECULATION
I have no idea where a 2 door Panamera fits into the lineup. If theres one thing that I've noticed its thats that Porsche seems to be creating new special editions every 2-3 months to help drive sales. I have heard nothing of a 2 door Panamera variant...... YET.
I still say that if none of you 928 owners have driven a Panamera yet, you would be shocked at its size. It's an incredibly capable sedan, but if I were to design an all out GT car in the likes of a V-12 Ferrari or Aston Martin, I would hope that Porsche has a different chassis with which to start. The Panamera is just too big in my opinion. But who knows.
For all you Porsche fans out there wondering about whats upcoming, there you go. This is all pretty much public knowledge and the only thing thats speculative is the mid engined 4 cylinder car that will be priced below the Boxster. The point is that this is a pretty busy company with a roadmap for the next 2 years and no where in there exists a 928 successor. Truth be told, the 911 with all its variations largely covers everything from all out race car (GT3 RS models) to absolute maximum performance and luxury (Turbo S) and everything in between. Is there room for a 2 plus 2 sports coupe thats larger than the 911? Who knows

Panorama had a story recently saying a 2 dr Panamera would conflict with other products under the VW umbrella and will not be built.
We need to be aware that Porsche is now part of a larger company and future products will be chosen to fit specific market niches not served by other VW, Audi, Bentley, etc. offerings.
