I purchased Ford injectors from ebay vendor about 8 months ago knowning I wanted to change injectors. Well the injectors dont have a slot to use stock clips that hold injector to inlet of fuel rail. Can I use these injectors without the slot/clip? To be honest I tried cutting a slot but my workmanship is not very precise and cant get a tight fit. Once the fuel rail is in place with bolts I cant see how injectors can come loose.
Anybody running Ford injectors without stock clips? Advise please.

 

The injectors can go down into the intake exposing the top o-ring....raw fuel followed by fire.

I installed the Fords from Roger, and they clip right in nice and solid.
I've seen some threads recently about the ones with no groove for the clip, and the general advice is not to use these unless you groove them appropraitely yourself, and if you're not really sure, I certainly wouldn't.

 

The design III has a disc on the end that seems to prevent the injector from dropping -- so long as its intact. I think grooving them is better.

 

I noticed the stock injector is held tight to the fuel rail with clips, how accurate should the cut slot be?
I cut a slot into one injector and when inserting into fuel rail with clip it still want to be pushed up more.
I'm not comfortable with precision work like this, so I may go with stock injectors since the were cleaned several years ago.
What is everyones impression when using Ford injectors over stock units?

 

Sell the ones you have and get some proper ones. I installed some yesterday on my car and am amazed at how smooth they are.

 

Where and how soon can I get some? Right now I have same injectors as Landseer. How are yours working out Chris?

 

They are smooth, too.
Our car's originals were deficient, so the difference was dramatic.

Am wondering if, instead of cutting new slots, a different depth clip exists that would solve this problem.

I'll take a look at our Wrangler. It uses the lower groove when retrofitted with the Ford style injectors. Rail attach point might be different though.

 

^^^^+8 What he said. Mine from BlueOval have been on the shelf here for almost two years. Finally got around to doing the intake refurb, and the new injectors went in. Impressive improvement in smooth. Instant MPG indicated on the digidash is about 15% better, leading me to think that the originals were about 15% restricted. Big test comes at smog-test time, when we find out of a partially-restricted nozzle or three was the cause of the almost-too-high NOx readings.

 

Just got my care package from Roger with 8 new injectors.....with gooves.

If you replaced your originals with 24# injectors, it will skew the MPG on the digital dash. But they surely are smooth, aren't they?

Engine is completely stock so I stuck with the 19# injectors. No reason to make it richer than it already is on the open-loop map. I'm maybe 150 miles into the first full tank with the new nozzles installed, so maybe another week or three before it needs fuel again. 2010 the car got a whopping 11 tanks of gas passed through it. I put more miles on rental cars tha I did my own last year.

 

I'm also using the Ford injectors from Roger. Crisp acceleration.

 

The difficulty is in finding 24lb Design III (thin/new style) injectors (required for the 85/6 cars) having the top groove.

A local machine shop should be able to cut a perfect groove with a small lathe.
