I measured and cut my grooves into the Ford 24 pounders with a dremel. Worked great.

As landseer states the problem is finding the 24# type III with clip groove. From all the searches I've done, iv'e decided, they don't exist. You definately need the groove, so if you want type IIIs you either need to figure out a way to cut the groove yourself or find someone who can. I fortunately have access to an old lathe and used that to groove mine.

Okay, whats the real purprose of the slot?
Hold injectors from falling into intake or keep injector snug on fuel rail ?
The slot I cut holds the injector in place however not snug on fuel rail, would this create any problems or does the oring keep it from leaking?

There is enough room on the bottom hole in the manifold that under pressure, the injector could be pushed down and out of the top fuel rail causing a massive fuel leak and potential fire.

Mine aren't super-tight either. O-ring creates the seal. Clip is a retainer. Groove has to be deep enough so that the clip clicks-in.

Dr. Bob,
I guessed that you would have gone back with 19# injectors, and I figured you knew about the digital dash getting skewed with the 24# injectors, but I thought I would say something just in case.

I put more miles on rental cars tha I did my own last year.

Hi John--

My mistake. I wasn't paying enough attention to the OP, who was talking about his earlier car that needs the 24# injectors.

the o-rings that come on the type IIIs are the correct sive for the 85-86.5 cars. the 87+ cars require different o-rings.

^^^ I followed what Simon did regarding O-rings.

Those that arrived installed on the 24lb Design III injectors fit well. There seems to be better standardization on injector fit across marques than most other areas of an automobile.

Injectors were stocked by Ford Racing divn. as 9593 AA302; Bosch # 0230 155 931 just for reference for anybody following this later.

Michael, for completeness, what are part numbers on the ones you are installing?

got the ford type III by error, Roger got me the correct type II with clip , both 4 hole injectors , they both run the same, GREAT, no difference in the cars performance between the type II and III , big difference from stock. and they are plug and play with the original, they have the slot for the clip.

Fixed a rough idle , and runs great.

Go with the correct ones .
